I fill a cleaned out altoids container with milk weed/cotton when in a treestand and carry a small travel bottle of baby powder when spot and stalk hunting

Do a search on eBay for zinc sterate powder. It is cheap and it is the same stuff as smoke in a bottle, windicator, etc. $20 worth will last a lifetime. Also, get a snuff/coke spoon to transfer it into your bottles.

I'm a minimalist, so every item should serve at least two functions unless it's VERY important.

Wind reckoning is vital for Alaska pilots, so I've adopted a method I've used for years using my scarf (shemagh).

My technique (dont LOL): Pre-hunt I'll "calibrate" my scarf by holding it outside my car window while annotating its attitude (pitch) at 5mph, 8 mph, 10 mph, 15 mph, etc. Once you see its angle at various wind speeds...well you'll very accurately be able to ID wind speed in the field.
