DIY suppressor cover

Have any of your made up your own? Curious to know what materials I would need to make one that is light but would minimize mirage issues.

7mm carbon felt, wrapped in vet wrap. Electrical tape to hold ends. All off Amazon. Can wrap entire think in silicone tape as an option also

After buying a cover for my first suppressor I was surprised at how much weight it adds. Surely there’s some sort of tape we could just wrap around them? Is it important to cover the bottom and sides or would just covering the top work?

I've yet to handle a cover. Does it weigh more than a couple ounces? I was thinking I want one for hunting because the gun tends to get bagned around there. I also don't want heat distortion if I require a follow up.

I have been meaning to see if I have in POI shift with or without my cover. I also use the T&K. In theory a 6 ounce addition at the end of the barrel *should change POI.

Wrap in heat resistant cooking oven sheets then wrap it in your choice of tape. There are softer “rubbery” sheets and ones with a fiber mesh. Don’t use the slippery teflon type, unless you want to work harder to keep it on.

It will work for short strings to avoid mirage and protect it.

I did one with thin 1/8” carbon felt and a cut up silicone oven mat for a cover with silicon tape to hold it together. Super cheap, fairly light (haven’t weighed it though). You could vet tape it too.

For hunting, you don’t need the felt with a millimeter or more of the oven sheets. The felt it only slides more and can absorb moisture.

The felt will give you a little more protection from mirage for longer strings of fire than typical for big game. Cut it short and wrap with that self sealing silicone tape to seal it off if you want it protected from water.

Definitely keep the felt for the range. It acts as an insulation to slow heat transfer to the silicone. The silicone heats up and will feel hotter than a suppressor with the felt.

The benefit of light, no water absorption, and no slip outweigh the drawback for hunting purposes.

Don’t use the teflon oven sheets stuff unless you use tape to hold it on, it will slip.

I ordered some 5mn carbon felt. I will sew a piece of duck cloth canvas to hold it in place. I'm not mag dumping, just need protecting from dings and reduction in any mirage.
