I've yet to handle a cover. Does it weigh more than a couple ounces? I was thinking I want one for hunting because the gun tends to get bagned around there. I also don't want heat distortion if I require a follow up.After buying a cover for my first suppressor I was surprised at how much weight it adds. Surely there’s some sort of tape we could just wrap around them? Is it important to cover the bottom and sides or would just covering the top work?
Ouch. I think that's more than half the weight of my nomad tiTandK cover with sleeve for my Nomad TI XC adds 5.6 oz
I did one with thin 1/8” carbon felt and a cut up silicone oven mat for a cover with silicon tape to hold it together. Super cheap, fairly light (haven’t weighed it though). You could vet tape it too.Wrap in heat resistant cooking oven sheets then wrap it in your choice of tape. There are softer “rubbery” sheets and ones with a fiber mesh.
It will work for short strings to avoid mirage and protect it.
For hunting, you don’t need the felt with a millimeter or more of the oven sheets. The felt it only slides more and can absorb moisture.I did one with thin 1/8” carbon felt and a cut up silicone oven mat for a cover with silicon tape to hold it together. Definitely keep the felt for the range. It acts as an insulation to slow heat transfer to the silicone. The silicone heats up and will feel hotter than a suppressor with the felt.I did it primarily for range use. I need and want to compare felt vs no felt vs nothing for zero/impact changes.
