DIY Rokstok Lite-ish (The Barnstok)

I added bedding compound to the stock and action, pretty messy but I was happy with the end result. Had a little spillage of epoxy over the clay damn on the barrel but was able to trim it off later.

And then this happened....

Im not sure if I torqued on it at some point and wasnt aware or what but when I removed the action after bedding I had ahold of the middle of the stock holding it upside down. I tapped on the barrel with a rubber mallet and the second I did that the back half literally just fell off.

I didnt expect using fir to be the strongest thing but this still suprised me. Maybe its good it happened now. I glued it back together with titebond and the next day drilled a hole virtically through the grip and inserted 1/4 all thread with epoxy. Just the glue alone should be stronger than the wood but now with the rod re-enforcing the grip I feel pretty confident in it.

Added QD adapters, drilled and tapped hole then inserted with epoxy so hopefully will be secure.
I am somewhat on the fence about these, I havent used a sling in a while but there's times coyote hunting it would be nice to throw over my shoulder. I figured this was better option than traditional location and should carry better.
Something else I did is add ash as pigment to the JB weld to make it black rather than grey and I really like it.

Finally working on finishing the stock. Decided to stain first then will be applying pure tung oil and posibly spar urethane.
Decided to do something a little different sense its a laminated stock. General finishes black and antique walnut gel stain.
I sanded it down to 220 thinking I had done a good job of removing scratches/tooling marks but apparently I did not. The stain really made any imperfections show. Im not too concerned sense this definetly isnt a show piece and will likelt get pretty worn over time.

And I thought the birdhouse I made at Home Depot last weekend was good. Your craftsmanship is something to be admired! Cannot wait for the finished product
Ha! I appreciate it, there's levels to everything and I look at what I do compared to others and wouldn't give myself that much credit. I am learning a lot about finishing and will apply it to my other wood working projects I have coming up. Its a good thing I am busy because I am resisting the urge to want to just keep slapping coats on to get it finished and get to the ultimate test to see if the things will shoot! Currently its resting by the fireplace.
