2 hunters, 3rd rifle Colorado (or anywhere else during first part of Nov. that has OTC tags). Any opinion appreciated. We still need some gear so all things considered average cost will be close to same. DIY we will have gear for next year...
I've been seeing some negative criticism for drop camp outfitters. We've only been one other time during CO archery. Vacation schedules forced first part of November.

This being rokslide, it's unlikely you'll get anybody advising an outfitted hunt short of having an elderly or handicapped member of your party. If you intend to do this annually or long term, DIY makes the most sense.

+1 Id be afraid that the outfitter would give me subpar areas, which is common. Where I hunt they stick them in places that are surprisingly accessible and poorly located for the habitat.

I've never done it but if I were to do drop camp if find the area I would want to hunt and see if they would take me there. With outfitters that are also guiding full paying customers of be afraid if get the shaft. Assuming you had most gear you would need.

outfitter drop camps can be good or bad or any level in between - insist on references, the more the better and call them to ask ! - check with the licensing board for complaints and how long they've been in business without a principal name change, on public land they'll have to have a Forest Service permit so check that too - check maps before hand - have a CLEAR understanding of what you expect and what the outfitter expects before you book - We used the same outfitter for 24 seasons over the years, who they have working for them can make all the difference as can outfitters' age, health history or bad habits -
"some" outfitters can be notoriously hard on their livestock making a tough pack late in the game a challenge

That's a bunch to research for sure and we survived quite a few less than perfect trips with no ill effects save some grumbling, only had one horse wreck in all those years but it required a life flight trip out for him, bad concussion that lingered for months

One more thing, just because the map shows an area is way way off the beaten path don't assume you'll be alone - I've had many surprises the evening before opener when "privates" came in on top of us with their own stock, THAT sucks usually
