OK forget what I wrote yesterday. This is way better. 100% stronger and lighter.

For this you need 2 gold tip triple x arrow cut into 16 inch sections (for the 48 inches I need)

1 gold tip light weight x cutters cut into 8 inch sections

Glue the 8in section with 4 inch hanging out.

Put them together

Great work. One idea: if you already bow hunt you could use your normal arrow and one custom length piece. If pole needs are long enough you could combine both ideas (two normal arrows and one custom length, using this connection to the custom piece and a threaded rod connecting both normal arrow inserts). This way you either have extra arrows or less weight, depending on how you look at it.

I think you could but after seeing this slip on style I would trust the weakness of the screw together type

Great idea! I have a Hilleberg Nallo and wondering if there is any bend to the poles? If so, it would be interesting to compare weights of the arrow vs originals. I also just broke the poles on a ground blind and this would likely be a great fiix!

Curious, what's the diameter on these and how thick is the CF walls? I'm definitely interested to hear how this works in the real world especially in windy conditions and maybe even with some decent snows. Nice job by the way.

I broke a couple of poles on my ground blind (long story) and just fixed them thanks to your advice! I went to our local archery range on a Sunday evening and found a bunch of bent or broken arrows in the trash cans. I used a small pipe cutter I picked up at Home Depot to cut the arrows to the right length.

The od is .421 . I pitched the tent in my back yard only. But I'm going on a backpack hunt for bear in 2 weeks it will see some wind. Hopefully no snow but who knows.

No curve. my tent takes a strait pole.

It's a vtech vlite2.

It's a very cheap single layer 2 person tent. But with the right mod you can get it a shade over 2lbs.

Gotcha. dang that is an inexpensive shelter. Do you think your poles would support something like a Bearpaw Luna 4? Its not much heavier but the pole would have to be around 70inches tall.

It's a good shelter if you expect decent weather.

I think at that length it would get pretty flexible.

Kinda my thoughts. I think i might use your idea but buy some carbon fiber tubing off amazon. you can get it in all different diameters and lengths. thanks for sharing your idea :)

Let us know how your Amazon Carbon Fiber tubing project works out and how the cost turns out.

Another option if you're looking for new or custom poles is TentPole Technologies. They carry aluminum, fiberglass, and carbon fiber. The .490 diameter aluminum poles that I'm looking at will come in around $20 with the inserts. I'm going to look into the carbon fiber sections on amazon before I do anything though.
