Kinda my thoughts. I think i might use your idea but buy some carbon fiber tubing off amazon. you can get it in all different diameters and lengths. thanks for sharing your idea

I looked at a few sites that sell carbon fiber, and not all carbon fiber is created equally. I'd be careful buying on amazon, especially considering the cost. The zpacks website recommends using a larger diameter pole for anything over 48". If you're set on using carbon fiber and cost isn't an issue, I wouldn't go any less than .5" diameter (maybe even .625"). Compared to aluminum, the increase in cost and minimal weight savings might not be worth the hassle.
