So I used binos on a tripod last year and just used a standard bino adapter but I got tired of screwing it in and out. So I decided to make my own because I didn't wanna spend the money for the outdoorsman and I could make it cheaper myself. So I got a shaft collar (5/16)with a set screw and made a wing nut screw to tighten it.

Then I used a shoulder bolt(1/4-20 threads with 5/16 shoulder)

and ground the head even so the shaft collar slipped over it but you can still tighten it to the binos with an Allen wrench

I still have to figure out the base but it seem very sturdy at the moment.

I don't like those post adaptors...I've seen issues.

I used a small aluminum plate with a little bend at the edge, threaded nut under and a strap with velcro. Rock solid and doesn't weigh much- works great

What issues have you seen with post adapters? I've heard far more complaints about the bino shelfs like yours than I have the others. I'm not sure I've heard anything bad about the Outdoorsmans setup. Before I went through all the trouble the OP has, I would have just bought a Field Optics adapter and been done. I'm not engineering anything for my SLCs.

Finished the mount today. I'm very impressed with how solid it is. There is practically no slop up down and left to right. Ended up with only about $5 in parts so I'm happy with that. Probly end up painting it dark green or black but I wanted to see what the tan look like

I'm interested in this. Saving money is great, but I am really after more stability. I spent $80 on a KDC adaptor, and I can't seem to eliminate excess motion or play. To be fair, I should know that there are always tradeoffs with light weight, and it is lighter than any other.
