DIY Arrow Wraps

I got this idea from a thread over on Archerytalk. You can get smashingvinyl.com to print 651 vinyl adhesive sheets. You can get them in just solid colors and cut them 1” x 4,5,6” Or you can make a high resolution image (there was a template shared on that AT thread) and have your own custom arrow wraps! Here’s my first attempt with them, I really like how they turned out.

I didn’t weigh the individually but my 6” wraps seem to adding about 7 grains of weight compared to my unwrapped test arrow. That’s in alignment with what I would expect. Most arrow wraps are saying they are 1 grain per inch. I would say these are in that range, maybe just a hair more. I tried looking up the specs of 651 vinyl. It’s a 2.5mil thickness. A lot of the commercial wraps are 2 mil. There is a 751 vinyl that would probably work better, that’s 2mil. But the company I got to print these only did it on 651.

I'm month out from your comment, but I use a Cricut to cut arrow wraps. I get the solid 651 vinyl from the craft store and the wraps cost pennies. I cut 1.01" x whatever length you want for .244 arrows. Works great and saves a ton of money.

I do the same. Quite a bit of savings if you build a lot of arrows. It's something like $4 for a 12" x 6ft roll of matte white 651 on amazon. My wife has a cricut, but I just cut them on a guillotine style paper cutter

Terrific idea. Arrow wraps are definitely too expensive for what they are. I have a few friends that do vinyl work, I'll have them cut my wraps from now on.

I like to use basic reflective wraps. Damn a 12"x12" sheet is only $3.25. Thats a lot cheaper!

Those are sweet wraps!!! Looks like a very tidy arrow build - impressive - thanks for sharing.

While not nearly as cool as the OPs arrows, I just fletched my first dozen arrows using Oracal 651, cut on my wife's Cricut as well. A manual straight edge trimmer would be a great alternative for cheap.

I bought three different colors of the 1'x5' rolls for $6/ea a few weeks back. The wraps are .90"x3.50" for my 5mm Axis 340 shafts with Blazer Heat vanes. At 36 wraps per square foot, 180 wraps per roll, or $.03/ea, they are much cheaper than off-the-shelf wraps. Unfortunately, I don't have a sensitive enough scale to weight them.

So far they’ve held up great, no signs of peeling and fletching has been rock solid, not lost any vanes.

Not sure there really is a practical purpose other than they look cool. I suppose the white will show blood when I get a pass through.

Makes it easier to remove the fletchings and gives you a clean shaft to re-wrap and re-fletch. Based on color choice it can be a useful tool for making your arrow a lot easier to find or for showing more blood on the arrow (7" white reflective is my personal favorite).

I went ahead and ordered some 12x12 sheets from a place online. Its unbelievable the markup on arrow wraps! I bought ten, 12x12 sheets and will get 24 wraps from each sheet. Total for the purchase was $6.50. I should have homemade arrow wraps for the foreseeable future....
