Thank you! Always heard good stuff about Papa Bears so I reached out but I have a feeling it’s gonna be out of our budget sadly.

After sleeping on it , I would skip Alaska DiY float trip ( you definitely won’t be the only people on the drainage if you hire a contractor to supply the raft and tent)
Canadian moose are cheaper and more comfortable and successful

Give Willie Dvorak a call with Jim River Guide Service. He offers DIY moose hunts out of Illiamna. He supplies transport to and from the field and the camp. We used him last year and were very satisfied

Thank you, will do!

Well, the plan would be to rent the rafts in town, not have them supplied by a hunt transporter. And I have a tent. Thanks.

The Strahan book mentioned here has river profiles and there are some choices that wouldn't require a transporter. Not going to blast out any of those locations here, but there are budget friendly hunts you could do. You will see other hunters on any road accessible float/atv/hike-in areas, but Alaska is still a very big place.

Research some units that have higher success rates, break down some drainages you are interested in, and call the local biologist for more intel.
