Disputed sale of boots from me

There is a dispute on a set boots I sold on here Dec 3rd. I sold them to someone who said they already had a pair worn out and wanted a pair for "his dad". These boot were exactly as I described and used for only the length of time I described. NO ISSUES NO HOLES OR TEARS. He then claims now the left boot was cracked and sends me pictures of the opposite boot than the original pictures, with noticeable wear marks that were not on my original pictures. I did not sell him junk or in any way would have dreamt the boots would have or could have been in a condition to crack as he describes. I bought new Schnee's for a hunt, used them for 1 hunt and put them in the attic, keeping them conditioned. They gave me blisters on the ball of my foot and I bought a set of Crispi's. He's threating to report me so this is just my side of it when/if he does. I take care of all my gear, whether I use it all the time or hardly at all because money has NEVER grown on trees for me so when I get something it has to last. Everyone who has bought anything from me on here can tell you themselves, what they received from me was either in new condition, or very well taken care of. I'm not positive he's not showing the "worn out set" and claiming them to be the ones I sent him. In no way was my pair cracked or in a "worn" state to crack..

This is only my take and I'm not taking the buyer's side. I always offer a 100% money back guarantee on everything I sell, without exception. That means it doesn't matter to me if the buyer has buyer's remorse, his wife got mad at him, he simply changed his mind, etc. I simply don't care. Why? Because my reputation means more to me than being "right" over some dispute a buyer may have drummed up to get out of the deal.

If it were me, I would tell him, send them back. Once I receive exactly what I sent you in the condition I sent them, you will get a refund.

If he sends you the old pair he referenced, as you are suspecting, then tell him to pound sand and make it clear that you will refund his money when he sends you what is yours.

Beyond that, if he's trying to scam you and lays it all out here for the whole world to see, then, unfortunately, you'll both have to ride through a thread of people saying what either of you should have done. You will each have to ride that wave on your own already established reputations. Luckily, if I understand your post correctly, there are pictures available for the potential oncoming battle. Good luck working things out.

I think you’re the best judge of this situation - if you think there are shenanigans being played with the pics or claim, call them on it. If you want to go above and beyond, offer to take back the gear and offer a refund. If the boots are in good shape, someone else will step up with an offer.
If you don’t want or feel as though it’s necessary to offer any return/refund, stick to your position.
Again, only you really know the honest story here. If you represented everything honestly and did what you said you’d do - it’s an honest deal. If you didn’t - then it’s something else.

Selling anything on line to a person you don't know is, at best a real risk. You just have no idea who you are dealing with. If you posted pictures of the boots you sold him and they were as you claim, that should settle any issues.

When buying or selling to unknown parties always use paypal - goods and services. Take adequate pictures and let them settle through paypal.

I'm not sure if this forum allows it, but on other forums I've seen a section where if any deals go south, both parties can post/screenshot etc and work it out.

If you have enough pictures to prove your claim about the situation that you can share with the moderators, my guess is the buyer will get the boot (pun intended) from Rokslide.

Is the buyer wanting to return them for a refund or is he wanting you to discount them (partial refund) and keep them?

I left an expensive pair in my attic for over a year. Conditioned, when I put them in.
Pulled them out and they started falling apart after first use. I imagine storage caused
them to fall apart prematurely. I would refund the buyer.

I saw the pictures and they looked good but rubber has a tendency to start to rot rather quickly. ESPECIALLY, in heat…like a hot attic might produce. I’d refund him upon return of the boots in same condition.

Agree with this. I can see the attic heat breaking down rubber/glue/resin very quickly. If you have an insulated or temp controlled attic, it might be different.

Cut your losses and refund money less money to have boots shipped back. And do as I do, trust NO BODY..........

My attic is temp controlled so any heat damage was not an issue. He's never asked for a refund just calling me liar and claiming to shame me on here. I sent him great as new boots and can face the Lord telling him the same..

I’ve bought and sold quite a bit on this site and others and only had 2 disputes over that time. In one case the seller accused me of not accurately representing the condition of a used gunstock. In another USPS trashed a package and the seller accused me of crappy packaging. In both cases I immediately offered a full refund and to also pay return shipping at my cost. No call-out threads, BS, or hurt feelings. One buyer accepted the refund, the other kept the stock but in both cases we went our separate ways satisfied, even if we ended up on each other’s “ignore user” list. I have never accused anyone of trying to screw me over, despite having the opportunity at least once that I can recall. I chalk it all up to an inherent risk of buying and selling used stuff online and buy/sell prepared to take an occasional loss that comes with some occasional great bargains.

Makes sense. Wish my attic was temp controlled. Sorry you're having to deal with this. This type of thing is honestly why I don't sell more stuff on here.

If it is the the rubber that is cracking, look up hydrolysis.

Could have been a perfect looking boot until they were worn, and then they start to fall apart. Good luck

How long exactly did you own these boots, and how long were they stored in the attic?

The part where you state you “kept the boots conditioned” while in storage is off putting to me. I assume you mean you put leather treatment on them periodically.
But who does that? And who stores boots so long that they would deem it necessary to do that?

And the whole “money don’t grow on trees for me bit” seems a fair bit melodramatic. Especially considering you have a thread where you profess to buying a custom rifle and paying $500 for load development and 1000 yard dope. That sure doesn’t seem like the spending habits of a guy struggling to get by.

I agree with the others. Refund the guys money and move on.
