Is this not the same thing?

It is, sadly I just need a couple parts and buying an entire saw doesn’t make sense for just the parts

You can get a set on Amazon for a bit over $7
I’m ordering a set to put in my camping tote! I hadn’t thought about removing the insert. It’s just been easier to be mad at it but I’ll give that a try next time I crossed paths with one of those devil bottles.

Still drive mine everyday.

I killed mine recently. I've been trying to buy another one for the last 3-4 weeks. Looked at a few, made a few offers, ran away from a few after 45 seconds... its a brutal marketplace out there. Also, people don't change their oil much less their transmission fluid. Some people never even shift into 4 Lo even after years of ownership. And, these 4th gen V8s are pretty much only for sale when they are long overdue to a timing belt and have leaking seals. That's fine and all if you are willing to price $3,000 worth of immediate labor into your selling price, but that's not the case.

Had a pre purchase inspection done on one from a dealer 7+ hours away. Sticker price was $11,900. Timing belt was due from age not mileage. Every fluid on the vehicle was overdue from age and the valve cover gasket seals needed replacing. I offered $11,500 out the door, estimate in hand for the work to safely drive it home, dealer literally told me to go f myself.

How'd you kill it?

I had an 04 V8 and rolled it over in the mountains a couple years ago. I was pretty sick about it. Was lucky enough to find an 06 V8 a year ago that was in good shape. It wasn't cheap, though!

There is something about 4th gen V8s. I looked at some other vehicles, but kinda knew in the back of my mind that I wasn't going to be happy until I found another one.

It has some issues already that we’re adding up: worn piston rings, leaking power steering fluid, but the final straw was the rear axle seals failing and spraying gear oil all over the brake calipers. The rear axles are $1,000 each in parts + would have needed to replace all 4 brake rotors and calipers. The Ebrake assembly also failed and seized up. The estimate was like $5,500 + maybe another $700 if the ebrake cable needed replacing. Threw in the towel at 280k.

Makes sense.

My 06 has 258,000, but it has had quite a bit of work done to it, and almost everything seems solid on it so far. Timing belt was done at 210,000, so I didn't have to do that. Needs an A/C line replaced before summer.

To me, the 4th gen is about the right size for a hunting rig. 3rd gen seems a little small, and 5th gen is a little harder to park on the side of a Forest Service road....

My only real serious complaint about the 4th Gen V8 design is the placement of the starter. Its makes no sense. The starter is tucked up under the exhaust manifold making for some pretty difficult labor to replace it. Its 5-6 hours of labour at a mechanic, making its a $800-$1300 job total. A DIY job can easily take that real world amount of time and you'll be cussing the entire time even once you have disassembled everything and it comes to actually getting the replacement into position to mount. You have to remove the front passenger tires and then disassemble quite a few components including the water pump to get at it. It is a serious design flaw.

Black ovis palisade glassing mittens. Finally found something light warm and cheap. Took one off, laid it on the tonneau to get my keys out and drove off. Went back to look and somehow it grew legs. 😂
