Disappointed by MKC or did I get a bad one?

Behring made Knives in Missoula Montana also make a great knife that would be a special forever gift to your young hunter to have and cherish.

Why am I just finding out about these knife makers in my back yard? Thanks @6mm Remington

No, I would never buy an MKC due to the social hype alone. Gross.
You should head out to their shop in Bonner and take a look at some of the knives and put hands on to get a feel for them. Mike and Mark Hangus are great folks who work hard to make a fantastic product. Mike and Mark are both looking to retire here not too far down the road so if you want a Ruana knife you might want to do it sometime soon. I do not own a Behring made knife (YET) but have been to their shop before and handled several of their knives. They do a very nice job making knives and make quite a few different models for a guy to drool over.

My favorites of theirs personally are the Steelhead, the 5AD, and the 95AD. All three are great knives that are big enough but not too large. I don't need another Ruana knife and they might be too busy to do it for me but I think the Reliable with the 3 1/2" drop point blade with the thumb notches on the spine matched up with the Vics Blade handle would be fantastic.
