I saw a thread from 2017, but nothing more recent. Looking for suggestions on scatt the best bet for a small digital camera to take on a backcountry hunt in September where weight and bulk need to be kept to a minimum. I can always use my phone, but am wondering if there are better options.

What are people using?

Thanks

I have the Sony RX100 (first year made)… awesome camera. My wife has the RX100 III which is my favorite of the entire lineup. Look for something used with a low pic count, or find a good deal on an older model that’s new. The current models are absurdly priced.

Canon also makes a nice compact with a 1” sensor (Power Shot G7), but I think the Sony is a better camera.

For a September hunt, I'd lean towards the Sony RX100 series or the Panasonic ZS200. The optical zoom lets you capture the story of the hunt—the distant trophy, the intimate camp detail, the sweeping vista—in a way a phone simply cannot, without adding meaningful pack weight. Pair it with a tiny tripod and a power bank, and you have a complete, pro-capable kit under 1.5 lbs.

Enjoy your hunt, and be sure to capture it well
