Different primers question

Ok I messed up the percentage , but I don’t think that will extrapolate linearly to a rifle round because the ratio of priming compound to powder charge is significantly less

As far as HNW experience I can only assume that there was something odd going on there as the brissance of those two primers isn’t that different from what I have read

I don't know if it extrapolates linearly. I would suspect there's some variation due to the different types of cases, amount of powder, etc. But interesting that the 28 Nosler had a pretty big spread between two primers as well.

I got a 162fps increase from avg in a 28 Nosler by switching from a CCI 250 to a Fed 215. I almost forgot about that but I made a post about it when it happened. But that's the worst I've ever seen, or heard of.
Wow. That is crazy. That could be an underwear changing event if you were already at the top end of the pressure curve in your rifle and you were shooting on a hot day. Damn…

Not to beat the horse, but throwin' and goin' with a different primer or case manufacturer or bullet or powder lot, etc is not worth any uncertainty. I think it's well known guns can handle higher pressures, but it does put wear and tear on everything in the whole firing system. Just takes a few extra shots to drop down, work up and establish or confirm parameters.

It was a learning event, for sure. Luckily I'm conservative when it comes to reloading, so I always take the safe route. I had done a fair amount of powder testing and grabbed a mild charge to start with on the primer swap, and nearly locked up the bolt. That rifle was a problem child for me and the components I was limited to at the time.

James Calhoon maker of the 19 caliber bullets has a site and on the informative articles he has an interesting write up on primers
