Salt River range in Western Wyoming. Per Google they were extirpated from the area in the late 1800s

After washing it as good as I could I shipped it home. Weighs 14lb cleanish. Was heavier with all the dirt in it. Lol

Cool. Yep, that looks like a Buffalo. I don’t know the local history, but many Wyoming ranches have had a few Buffalo over the years. It’s also close enough to Yellowstone that a park Buffalo wanting to stretch his legs and go on a walk about could have gotten there on his own. I bet the local old timers could tell you stories of old man Jenkins and the Buffalo he kept as a pet back in the 1960s.

The eye sockets look bison, but maybe without the rest of the skull it looks like they come out further than they actually do.

The holes above the eyes I thought were more an indication of bovine, but might be wrong.

I have never seen a cattle skull with that large and flat of a forehead vs the length of skull. Looks bison to me. Cool find!

I’d say buffalo. I see lots and lots of beef skulls and they are not that wide.
