Does anyone here have one of these or familiar with them? I missed a deal on one on here a few days ago and ended up getting one from ebay for a little bit more. Looking for some feedback, hoping I didnt waste my money. I spend a lot of time in the woods alone and usually cell servoce is questionable. I bought it primarily for western hunting trips though.

I would say with the advancements in inReach tech you wasted your money. Probably paid $100 bucks and looking at Ebay for $150 you could have at least purchased a Delorme SE, heck I see some Delorme Explorers for $200 as well. With so much info on this site about the inReach its a shame you didn't look for info or ask before leaping.

I have onX to use as a gps. I just wanted something to use to check in with the old lady and get help to me if something happened.
Have you ever used the 1.5? Thanks for an absolute lack of help or insight on this model.

No I haven't used the 1.5 because when I got interested in the inReach 5 or so years ago the 1.5 was old tech and the SE and Explorer were already out. Your probably not going to get a lot of help or insight on the 1.5 as it seems not a lot of guys are still running the unit or ever have. There's a reason that the 1.5 and Delorme model's are on Ebay so much. Personally I would not take a free 1.5 as its just not worth messing with and I wouldn't pay over $200 for the Delorme Explorer when a new Garmin SE+ can be had for under $300. Eventually Garmin is going to stop supporting the Delorme products.

I just don't get why guys are running ONX for there GPS the just using the inReach for communication when the Earthmate app is free with the purchase of an inReach and it does every bit of mapping on my phone that I need.

The earthmate app does look pretty good. Lots of support there too. I think ill try onx and earthmate and see what I like more. If earthmate does it for me maybe ill upgrade the inreach.

I have had one for quit a while now. It has served its purpose well. sometimes the incoming messages are delayed a bit but it works for what I need it for. It is big and bulky but so were the other inreach models until they came out with the mini. I think I will upgrade to that before next summer.
