For a counterpoint - the sodium doesn't bother me at all. Whenever I'm eating Mountain House I'm exerting myself all day long, sweating, so the sodium might be a good thing. I've never had any stomach / digestive issues either.

But, I'll try anything - for me it would primarily come down to taste and calorie density / weight. 2 Year shelf life is plenty. I am trying Heather's choice this year, expensive, but the difference in cost is not compared to the rest of my gear and expenses for a hunt.

I definitely would be interested especially now that you mention competing with the pro paks. Single serving is king for me, so the 2 servings that other companies offer can be a bit overkill. For what meals to make...somethign chicken teriyaki, something beef, and for the love of everything good....some sort of breakfast scramble that I can put in a tortilla!

I don't mind the sodium so much, as I'm usually drenched in sweat every day anyway so need a bit of sodium intake. I'd like to see more calorie options in the same size pack as a normal 2.5 serving MH. Get them up to around 1000 calories somehow. I know fat generally doesn't have a good shelf life, but I'd be willing to have less shelf life and more calories per pack with similar weight. High protein, high fat, high calorie.

Price is also a consideration. Half the time I eat a MH I'm sitting there thinking......gee, for $9 I could have driven to town and had a real meal.

I like the Beef Stroganoff, chili Mac, and breakfast skillet are the ones I can remember that I liked and the two year shelf life is a non issue. I wish Heather could make some healthy choices without such exotic meats to make them a little more affordable, I believe her meals are appropriately priced for what you're getting, but it's out of my ballpark unfortunately:(

Ten four, a year or two would be plenty for me. Put down "see food diet" under eating disorders on the last DOT physical, a two month shelf life would probably be OK for this kid..

Cost, taste, portion size, and less side affects next morning. The Propacks aren't enough food for me.

I would.

And try not to make spaghetti, chili Mac, chili, lasagna, etc. all taste exactly the same.

And get rid of that aftertaste. I'll buy them

That would be awesome. After 2 to 3 days of eating mountain house I have some epic gut rot. I typically don't balance out till at least 2-3 days after eating them.

I'd be on that like a fat kid on cake.

Wait, any chance they'll be cake?

No joke, I'd be very interested.

If you could get a great tasting meal with less sodium, with it's only drawback being it only has a 2-year shelf life. Would you buy it?

What would be your top five meals?

I would however I am not picky and l actually like mountain house.

So.............

1. A turkey or chicken pasta dish
2. Biscuits and gravy
3. Lasagna
4. Some sort of filling to put into burrito
5. Pendleton.............

At altitude I am a picky eater, have to force feed myself and always lose at least 10-15 lbs after a long hunt. I recently bought some Heathers Choice to try and it was good. Going to supplement Heathers Choice with Mountain House this year.

My favorites so far are:

MH Chilli Mac
MH Eggs & Bacon
MH Biscuits and Gravy
HC Ethiopian Dorowat
HC Smoked Salmon Bites
HC Salmon Chowder

Absolutely. I am not overly picky especially when hunting but, I just cannot choke down MH. Haven't found one yet that does not taste like watery cardboard.

What would be your top five meals?

Something high protein, high fat, low'ish carb, light on sodium.

I already get a great tasting, dehydrated meal with less sodium. HAWK VITTLES!!!!
They taste superb and are the only meals I'm taking into the mountains. Both their Hot and Sweet Italian Sausage & Pasta's are amazing. They do take longer to re-hydrate than the Mtn. House type meals, but the wait is well worth it.

These would not compete with Heathers.

These would compete more with the mountain house pro pack. Same price point, better taste, less sodium.

If you are going to hold back the sodium, hold back the soy as well. That is one of the protein fillers that causes the mountain house turd baby issue. Its really all the stupid fillers they use trying to make the glop in the bag look like something you would eat on a plate.

Low sodium and way less carbs. I'm buying some Heathers Choice this year. The MH taste ok but all of the carbs and salt leave me bloated and lethargic. I'm not a prepper so two years is not an issue.
