Deer??

So this is my first year hunting big game in Idaho. I grew up hunting in Utah, and in the desert where I hunted deer densities were low but I could still find 2-4 bucks per day with 10-15 does. I have hiked my butt off this fall in 66 and 69. I have seen SIGNIFICANTLY more moose than I have seen deer! I hiked for 4 hours last night in some great looking country and saw two deer and 9 moose. Are deer densities that bad? Am I looking in the wrong country? I am tempted to change units because I am so frustrated by the lack of deer I am seeing.. Thoughts?

Going off of your name "Chukar Chaser" my experience in Idaho has been just like Chukar hunting. Once you find that 1 ridge and that 1 bowl... you'll find all of them. And I believe that's just from the pressure that Idaho gets. The best tool you can have for the state of Idaho is a gym.

I have thought of that also. I am for sure exploring and trying to find areas with more deer. I have covered an insane amount of country and all I have seen so far is elk and moose. I am a moose finding sucker! I am gonna mix it up this weekend and see what I can dig up.

My first time hunting out west since moving to Idaho. I've been hunting unit 75 & have had the same experience. I've seen mostly moose, some elk, & very few deer. I've seen a lot of deer sign...

I thought I was in decent shape, but the deep wet snow whipped me the last couple of days; heading back in tomorrow.

66 and 69 are both really hard units. I saw some big guys in there years ago and have seen some big bucks come out of there but they are few and far in between. Most of the deer I saw were out of pure luck.
