had a chance to send a few rounds yesterday through a few suppressors. Dead air Laz6, Hux Flow6k, and also one my legacy cans, Pantera Defender. 16" and 12.5" 5.56 AR's
Flow 6k was the loudest for sure and with more of a crack to the sound. Also perhaps a little bit more sparking under low light, but not too bad and these were literally the first rounds through each can (Hux and Laz). The Lazarus had a bit better sound, duller, deeper tone and overall a little quieter. Would defintely rather shoot lot of rounds with the Laz. The sound difference was obvious and while the Hux was fine through ear pro it surely would add up more so on a high round count training class or extended shooting, and would definitely be very notable without ears on ( I did not).
Sound is not on paper the biggest factor for me, I hate gas in the face. This trends my bias to like Hux and not getting gas in the face. The gas was also very good on the Laz6 though. SLIGHTLY noticeable compared to the Hux but still really quite good. And the muzzle flash was less too so have to give the nod to the Laz overall. The overall balance of sound/Backpressure/Flash signature/Size/Weight was nice. Lazarus is Haynes 282 construction so even though it's a fairly compact size it's not lightweight at ~15/16oz (Direct thread HUB). Hux flow6K is slightly smaller but not much. Hux is stainless @13oz + muzzle device probably negligible weight diff, The Pantera Defender has great sound for it's small size(1.2"D), but it's still 6" Long, 13oz and high BP.
12.5" AR with the old Pantera Defender has a YHM suppressed gas block as this can is high BP by today's standards. the Laz6 would not cycle the bolt, did not eject the round. It would barely unlock the bolt and Jam up so I had to rack the charging handle with force to eject. speaks to the lack of BP from the Laz. I did not even try the Hux on that rifle. the 12.5" Defender was also slightly more gassy than the Laz on a 16" mid-length gas system. Soundwise the Defender performs well and form factor is really small. similar sound suppression to the much larger and heavier Lazarus. Defender had better sound than the Hux. just too gassy without remediation. with the YHM gas block on this gun it's manageable although still slightly more gas vs the Laz on a "typical" mid-length 16" gun. Most likely I will choose to run the Laz more often.
TLDR- Lazarus6 from Dead Air was my best overall performer
