I just fitted a pair of Decibullz this evening. After a second fitting, they are comfy and deaden the sound quite a bit. I would not be able to hear geese wings flapping with these.
I purchased the lanyard too. No-brainer for me as otherwise I am guaranteed to lose one or both Decibullz, especially in the field.
Here are a couple lessens learned tonight on fitment.
1. The instructions say use silicon earplugs for fitting because the foam (shooting) earplugs will be damaged by the hot water. However, the silicon earplugs are shaped differently than foam earplugs. So my first fitting was with silicon earplugs as instructed, and when I later swapped in the foam earplugs, the Decibullz no longer fit my ears.
So, for the second fitting, I did this:
- heated up the Decibullz without any earplugs
- popped on the foam plugs
- fitted them in my ear
Voilà, my Decibullz fit great with proper sound deadening when using the foam (shooting) plugs!
2. For my first fitting, I pressed them into my ears with too much gusto and they pancaked a bit too much. Once the plastic hardened, the thin edges were not comfortable. Fortunately, after heating, the body becomes as malleable as Playdoh. So it is an easy reshape if it doesn't feel good. Mine are very comfortable after my redo.
