December $487 prefit group buy, several barrels are a go

I have no experience with the SAW cases. I’ve always been under the impression they are .308-based cartridges. They’re kinda hard to find info on, but the reamer drawings I’m seeing show about a 2.010” case length which seems to confirm my 308-based assumption. It’s never been quite clear to me what it’s supposed to provide that 7-08 Improved doesn’t. There was a failed 257 caliber .308 case called .25 Souper that folks still chamber sometimes also.
They use small rifle lapua 308 palma brass to hide pressure.

So OP, do you do anything to the barrels or are you just a barrel broker?

UM makes CUSTOM barrels for a Tikka action. Big emphasis on the CUSTOM Tikka pre-fit word. Just so happens UM also uses a stock designed for a Tikka action. And they even make a suppressor for their CUSTOM Tikka pre-fit barrels. I have a PBB pre-fit barrel. The fit and finish stinks. Been sitting in a closet for about a year that’s how excited I am to shoot it. So no, I won’t be getting another one. I suppose I should see how it shoots and sell it. If somehow the barrel is an exceptional shooter I may keep it. I have $725 into it.
He offers better pricing on PBB barrels than folks can get directly from PBB, and some folks here want a PBB. Seriously how could this possibly be confusing to you?

Not sure why you keep bringing up UM (who has had their own QAQC growing pains) and various irrelevant products in the context of this discussion. IE you can put a rokstok and unknown suppressor on a PBB barrel, there is nothing special about UM in that context. Not trying to dump on UM either, just not sure why you are putting them on a pedestal in this thread.

What barrel? Length and chamber? I’d be interested. Enjoy the pbb barrels, I’d like to see accuracy test between one and an ace.

it is a 6 creed standard lite contour. 24.3” with a standard Tikka target crown. PBB now offers the hybrid lite contour for those that want standard threading on the muzzle which most folks want. PBB offered the reamer I wanted for shooting 115 DTACS

  • α .183" FB (.277" neck, αlpha reamer)
  • Twist Rate (6mm):
    5R Twist 1-7.5

I floated this a few pages back, would need 3 more to get a 7-08 option on the site, assuming these specs agree with ya

Tikka 750 taperless - 5/8 x 24.
SPECS:
Cartridge: 7-08
Throat: SAAMI
Length: 20”
Twist : 8”
Lapped - Sure
Fluting - If that’s what it takes to get 4 more on board

Samples of 1 or 2 wouldn't be worth much. I'd put money on ACE blanks looking/measuring better or more consistent but they should. They are a more expensive and time consuming to make cut rifled barrel that has been lapped. That doesn't mean it's always going to shoot tighter. I'm sure there's lots of samples of each that would outperform samples of the other. The pedestal Gila is putting UM on here is a bit comical.

That freebore and neck dia is standard SAAMI.

How is a UM Tikka prefit any different than a PBB Tikka prefit? Everything is the exact same process, quality is all determines one who is doing the work, his attention to detail and his skill. My smith has cut me so many prefits(for over a dozen different actions) I cannot even count them, they all shoot fantastic. Sometimes when I get a new action he asks me to use my depth mic to check the lug to bolt face just to check his specs, but that's only on actions he hasn't done several prior.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a quality finished prefit barrel if the smith knows what he's doing.

I feel like if we thru "Custom" on a box of dog shit, you would buy it thinking it had to be better than a normal box of dog shit.

Keep buying all your "Custom" barrels and telling everyone how profits are trash. Just don't ask all the animals we have shot with these trash barrels to back you up.

@Gila

Now you have me curious, and its a 6mm which I have a ton of ammo for. I will pay shipping to have it sent to me. I will test the barrel for you on video. If it shoots, you can pay for all the shipping and you get your barrel back. I will include some crow for you to eat.

If it doesn't shoot, I will personally talk with Preferred barrel and get it sorted. If necessary, I will personally refund you the cost and keep the barrel.

There is no better offer you could get for that barrel now that you have besmirched its reputation.

Put up or shut up...

CUSTOMer service for a non-CUSTOMer. *Mic drop*

My first custom barrel was a dud, he kept my rifle for a year and the second barrel he put on was also a dud.

I do prefits because it is not worth my time with so few actions and scopes to be seending rifles around. If a prefit dosnt fit, and it dosnt shoot, and worst case the gunsmith dosnt take care of it, I can just screw a new one on.

Thanks for the offer but no. In case you haven’t noticed, I am not really looking very hard for an excuse to sell it. Like I said if it is an exceptional shooting barrel I may just keep it but I have rather high expectations. PBB has a good reputation for putting out good shooting barrels which is why I bought one to begin with.

What’s really comical is @Gila is dumping on prefits while lauding CUSTOM builds by Gunsmifs, when it’s his gunsmif who didn’t even bother to headspace the barrel he was installing. But yeah, let’s trust the same guy to chamber up a fully custom build, that’s probably going to turn out great!

Classic.

So you haven’t even shot it and came in here trashing prefits?

Seems like an odd position to take.
