I settled on the Exo Mtn Gear K2 for day hunting where I might have to hump heavy loads of meat out. I’ve used it on a couple of hunts so far and have been very happy with it. It is a very simple bag design with no frills or extra stuff built into the bag. Just what you need. The meat\load shelf works very well and carries the weigh surprisingly well for a relatively compact size.
There are two things that I don’t like about it, and both are relatively minor. The first is the design of the hip belt. It’s looks pretty cheap and poorly designed although it isn’t terribly uncomfortable under a big load. The other is that the side compression straps cross the top of the water bottle pouches on both sides of the main bag, making it hard to get stuff into and out of those pockets at times, especially with the pack on your back.
Overall I’d say 4.75 out of five stars. If only they made it in Optifade...
