I personally have 2 kits, one is for unplanned nights out, it is super minimal, SOL bivy, and some extra insulation layers. I'll survive and be semi comfortable, but probably wont sleep well though and I'll be heading home asap after I wake up.
But if I'm thinking of hunting the next day, it's either a tarp or a Seek Outside Silex (both at 13oz) both have pros/cons and reasons to take. 40 degree Apex quilt, @ 16oz, combined with my insulation layers, that's comfort to below freezing. Pulls double duty if I am cold while glassing. This allows me to run lighter insulation, so this is almost a wash in weight. I carry a stove and water + extra food anyways. Add an insulated pad at 14oz and I'm sleeping comfortably for less the 2 pounds added weight to the pack.
