Darn Tough too Darn Tight! Alternatives?

I like the fit and comfort of Smartwool socks. I have owned various Smartwool models and throwing them in the wash and the dryer has not affected their fit. I also own Darn Tough socks and on an apples to apples comparison (light cusions vs light cushion etc.). they seem thicker. Might be worth trying a non Darn Tough brand sock.
