Danner Pronghorns

I'm apparently the odd man out but have had nothing but good experiences using my Danner Pronghorns here in Utah for roughly 5 years now. I didn't pay the $300 for the made in USA version and still use them to this day, probably made in China but my feet don't care.

We call that specific pair the unicorn of the boot world 🤣

In my attempt to keep as much of my dollars in the USA, I recently purchased the Danner Thorofare boots. So far so good and I have a thread on them in this Footwear forum.

Mine were fine for Pronghorn/Turkey hunting, but too soft and flexible for High Country Deer & Elk. They were fine for light moisture, but with heavy rain they soaked through. Where I hunt Pronghorn/Turkey is typified by easier terrain than what I would expect in the hills.

Ya, I primarily hunt high desert. Doubt they would be my choice for very steep or very wet environments.

I would echo what most other guys have said. My first pair of Pronghorns came apart wtihin the first 50 miles. Danner sent me a new pair. They work ok, and are comfortable as long as I am not carrying more than about 30 lbs and not climbing anything too steep. I bought the pronghorns as a rookie mistake, and will be much more discerning on my next pair of boots. I plan on using the pronghorns for antelope and some deer hunting, but won't take them in the mountains at all.

If you're asking about boots to hunt out west really any would do. My Pronghorns would last about 2-3 years with heavy duty hunting. However they were a really flexible boot and I prefer stiff. If you need a boot to get by on your first "western" hunt they will do just fine. Especially since you can find deal on them often.

I live in the western rain forest I like dry feet so I buy premium boots.

If your a size 10.5 I have a set In the classifieds with lots of life left I’ll let go cheap. I used them but had a hot spot on the top of my pinkY toe so they we normally just spares or I would do yard work in them. Shoot me a pm if interested

Can I ask what happened to them? did the soles wear out? the leather or gore tex fail?

Leaked like a sieve when wet then the leather stretched so much from lacing the lace eyelets were touching and the boots were still loose. I then had a weak moment and bought a pair that were about 70% off. The leaked the first time I wore them walking in just mowed lawn, at the boot/sole interface. Probably stitched right thru the membrane. I wouldn't take a pair now if they were free.
