Thanks again for the previous input everyone! The dates of the trip are set, July 25-August 8. My dad is SOOO excited. I'm praying his health remains stable up to and through this trip. We'll be primarily using a minivan for transportation with day trips in Anchorage, Denali, Valdez, Seward, Kenai & Homer. I had a few additional questions about some activities that I have not yet reserved. Any input would be appreciated:

1. Interested in a float trip for Salmon. Would be on Aug 4. Would like to find a guided, half-day float trip for me and my dad. Would like to do it with a service that offers nice lodging on the river. One with a comfortable seat for my dad to sit in for the trip. I have looked into Drifting on the Fly that was recommended by a fellow Rokslider and it would work. Their lodging is on the ocean but we would prefer a place that has their lodging on the river. Wondering if there is a fishing resort any of you might recommend on the Kenia where we could spend the night at a cabin or lodge associated with the guide service the night before the trip and the night of the trip that is on a quiet part of the river. Yes, being picky :) One that would be nice for my stepmom and wife to spend the day at, taking in the scenery/river from the porch of the cabin.

2. I'm thinking of booking the "short and sweet" bear viewing float plane trip with Alaska Bear Adventure. Can anyone speak to them as an outfitter? Would you recommend another outfitter you have experience with/confidence in? It's a big investment!

3. I think we would like to do a Halibut half-trip out of Homer one day. Any suggestions on an outfitter who would be able to accommodate my dad who will need to spend the day in a chair on deck and who might be able to provide an electric reel set-up?

Thank You So Much!

Fishology Alaska can provide all of what you are looking for. Mark Wackler is the owner and he a is a fantastic fellow and all of his guides and employees are top notch.

They will be running float trips for sockeye on the Kasilof river, which is much quieter than the Kenai as most are fishing out of drift boats. They will be running sockeye trips on the Kenai out of a std motor boat.

They have options for bear viewing flyout trips and saltwater fishing for bottom fish.

Their lodge and cabins on the Kenai are spectacular. https://orcalodge.com/

Availability, at this point in the year, may be your biggest challenge.

Good luck!

Thanks Coley, I will look into them!

Alaska Wildland Adventures in Cooper Landing would dial in your #1. They can probably help with #3 as well, and may have recs for #2.

Hope it works out and your dad has a blast!

My buddy’s a charter captain in Homer (but he’s a 6-pack guy and would not be a good fit). He had a few recs for you on number 3. He said nobody uses electric reels but any of the big boats that do half days can accommodate mobility issues. His top 2 he recommended were Foxfire and Peninsula Saltwater Guide service.

Otherwise any of the big outfits like Homer Ocean, Bobs Trophy Charters, Maverick, or O’Fishal will be able to help.

Call today and book now; you’re after peak season dates there and many will be booked up, even big boats and half days will be tough to come by.

I’ve never done the bear stuff when we go. But have had plenty of people that stay at our cabins use Alaska Bear Adventures and haven’t heard anything negative.
