Wolves should be tipping over from cwd I would think. Maybe they are careful when they are tearing deer and elk apart though?

Just seen a couple snow geese with it today. Mallard kabobs for super tonight .
The last cases in the Western Pacific Region were reported from Cambodia on 23 and 24 February 2023. Globally, from January 2003 to 14 July 2023, 878 cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus were reported from 23 countries. A lot of birds have had avian influenza and that has crossed to humans .
Correct, it's rare but it has occurred...a few rare case reports of suspected human to human transfer of bird flu.

Bottom line is with any infectious disease, with enough variants and then enough cross species exposure, there is going to be sporadic cases (past, present or future) that occur. Sustained transmission on a predictable rate is much more difficult to predict....The frequency and risks get more difficult to give people hard numbers on, because they are rare events (and are more difficult to study). Some people are OK with uncertainty others are not, some are accepting of potential risks, others don't want to hear about it unless it 100% known. I am glad state agencies at least try to track it and consider mitigating large herds when they find clusters of cases.

Or, from millions of years of exposure they have evolved to not be affected by ungulate prions

If all tables, grinders, knives, ect…. are considered to have transferable prions if having been exposed to a CWD positive animal.
And many folks who travel from state to state hunting take the meat to butcher shops. The same butcher shops who process farm meat, smoke thanksgiving turkeys, make summer sausage, and ham burger..
Then wouldn’t it be reasonable to believe most folks have already consumed “exposed meat products”?

I watch YouTube videos from butcher shops cutting up white-tailed deer from time to time. They also have videos of processing beef. The butcher shops in every place I’ve been that butcher game also butcher farm animals.

I don’t know that I’d consume a tested positive animal. That’s an individual choice a person needs to make.
I’m just thinking most folks who partake in custom small town butcher shop products have already been exposed.

The throw everything that contacted the game away deal sure invites odd thoughts.
Just curios, has anyone thrown their truck away yet? How about a $600+ backpack?
I’m not soaking my Stone glacier pack in bleach.
Kind of gives those $80 fancy reusable game bags a new feel doesn’t it.
Did you replace your rifle, or soak it in bleach?
Toss all your clothes from that day? $600+ Kuiu Chugach rain gear set?
If you washed your clothes before the test results came back, do you then toss your washer, dryer, and any other clothes that might have been in the load?

I think it would be interesting to hear a detailed description of the handling, field to freezer, of a positive test animal. And then hear the Biologists detailed recommended decontamination protocol.

I’m curious Stalker69’s decon method, but know that would just go south.
And that most butchers would already be dead from CJD.

Wow, how old are you ? And yes I will stop hunting when I decide it’s time, weather it’s CWD that causes that decision, age, or death I don’t know at this time. But not sure why what I do, makes such a big deal to you ? Why does it ?

Scientists and biologists are confident that the disease was very new when it was discovering in captive cervids in the late 60s.

What about the test is fallible? It has greater then 99% accuracy in detecting CWD. I'll take those odds.

So if bleach killed prions in tissue, you would soak your meat in bleach and then eat it? Again, what relevance does weather or not bleach kills prions in flesh have to do with anything?

Because any little trace of “ meat” left on or in any little nock or cranny, ( like bolster to blade, grinder tube or plate, etc) will still contain the prions. You may not see it, but it’s still there.

I could give two sheets about you and your family, you started the personal attack. I just asked how many others had positive tested animals. Again how friken old are you ? Like 18 ?

Well, it has not been known to transfer to humans at this time, and no body knows the incubation period, if or when it ever does. All I am saying is I ain’t eating, nor feeding that positive meat to my family or any body else I know.I don’t know why some have a problem with that. I will take the precautions I feel I need, and others do what they want, I am not trying to change any ones opinion. I don’t why some are trying to change mine. Damn.

This.

People get a serious false sense of security from a “negative” CWD test in a known infected area. Just because no CWD was detected in the single test does not mean the deer/elk doesn’t have CWD. People trust science way too much. If I was that worried about CWD I would not hunt anymore or at least stick to states with no known cases.

Another 18 year old I take it ? Or just someone that thinks he ( she) knows everything ? The meat has been taken care of, but I am willing to donate any future positive animals, to any one that wants it.

But what ever, I for one didn’t mean for this to go side ways the way it has. I am obviously on the, I ain’t taking a chance on this, and many here are on the other side and don’t care, or don’t think it’s a thing. But I was strongly advised not to eat it, given reasons not to, by biologists, so I ain’t.
