This could be bad bad news. Deer in the US are in grave danger. I have no idea what we can do to help stop it, or to promote research on mitigation techniques.

Aside from the slight possibility of crossing the species barrier to humans, I worry about the elk. The massive numbers in really close contact, especially in winter herds, could be terrible. And the even more massive numbers in the Elk Refuge in Jackson!
