Morning Gents,

I did some searching on the forum but didn't see anything directly related to he Optima V2. Planning on pulling a CO muzzleloader tag this year and currently my Optima is setup for PA inline which is smokeless pellets, sabots, and scope. I was wondering if anyone has load data using Triple Seven or Blackhorn 209 with 240 grain conicals (which I believe is the only option besides round ball in CO).

Lastly, I removed the factory Durabright sight as soon as I got it home so have not tried these. Wondering if there is a large benefit in upgrading to an aftermarket sight setup (no scope in CO).

Let me know your thoughts, thank you!

Hi fellow keystone stater. From what I know, you just need a full bore bullet like a powerbelt, Thor, etc. If your optima is like mine, hornady borlocks shoot great though many argue they aren't stout enough. I can't help you on the sights or powder. The williams western globe sight does look interesting and is what I want to try as I too want to transition my rifle like yours.

“Smokeless pellets”?

You can basically use any full-bore conical in CO. Not sure if you’re hunting deer or elk or something else. Assuming deer - a 250 gr or 300 gr Thor or a 270 gr BOR Lock would be good choices with 100-115 grV BH209. Stay away from Powerbelts.

As for sights, yes, most factory iron sights are junk. I’d put a good peep sight on it - Williams Western Precision peep and fiber optic (small .019” green fiber optic insert) globe on it.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry , yes triple seven BP substitute pellets. I have read the regs and the bullet choice confused me so thanks for clarification. I think I'm to go with the Hornady Bore Driver 290 grain and swap out my read sight for WWP rail with peep. This should allow me to easily remove the scope when needed.

I have the optima v2 and hope to be in NM elk hunting later this year. I just can't bring myself to shoot BH209. Beyond the price, im just not a loose powder guy for laziness and ease of loading for what im used to. I have no problem unloading at the end of the night and reload in the AM to save the pellets from moisture. And a balloon on the barrel end in wet conditions. I used to shoot pyrodex pellets cuz it was cheap and what I found locally years ago. Now I shoot the white hots. 2 pellets and a 300 grain .502 thor hammer.

Being that I will be in NM, I also get to go scope less. So I mounted the Williams Western ML sight and just dialed it in yesterday. Great sight. Fine tune elevation marks, but mine has no witness marks for L/R. But the white hots are dirty, but my Optima shot great with it. 1inch group and a 2 inch group at 100 yards with the open sights laying prone on the grouns. Cannot complain about that.
