Cutting the Cable Cord...

Check out slingTV if you aren't 100% sure of ditching cable or do watch live sports. For $25 a month, you get 22 basic channels (espn and espn2 included there) and the extra sports package that adds espnu, sec network and a few others. It's not perfect, but it's much cheaper than the alternative and works well for me as a UK fan living in the south east. We have a Roku, Netflix, amazon and sling.

We dropped DirectTV over a year ago and I haven't missed it once.

We have Roku with all the fixins already mentioned and it's more than enough for us.

I'm always surprised how much is on YouTube

You are speaking my language. Do you get all UK games?

We ditched satellite about a year ago. We cant get good high speed where i live so we are forced to watch netflix on our phones. We have unlimited data on our phones. The wife and i will get started watching a show and just watch an episode or two a night. Makes you sit by each other.

Between our HD Antenna and SlingTV having the SEC Network, ESPNU, ESPN 1 and 2 I should be able to so long as it is televised on one of those, and I think all but two games this coming season will be.

I normally watch games at my mother's anyway. Been a tradition for 30+ years but I normally suffer through football at home alone. :)

Get an apple TV and then you can shoot it from your phone to your TV. They are nice and you can still just use the data from your phone.

I think I will check into the slingtv, been wanting to ditch the satellite bill for awhile. Got to watch the wildcats I bleed blue. My daughter went to midnight madness Sat, night in Rupp she said the boys look skinny not much muscle this year.

I think they will be OK. Will take a few lumps along the way but be there in the end. I wish UK basketball didn't matter so much to me. I know you know the feeling but there are losses that I will never get over. You could probably name a handful of them. Lol!

I still hate Christian Laettner, and I was 7. WV in 10, Connecticut in 11 and 14, Wisconsin this year. There's way too many to name even before Calipari took over. How about that UL Scandal though, nice to see Pitino get what he deserves, haha.

It is even worse now. Outside the Lines special today at 1:30. Yikes!

We got rid of cable 9 years ago. We use our dvd player to access netflixs. Are the other devices like apple tv roku and others any better?

Lots of stuff to watch for free on roku....including hunting videos. Lots of free movie channels like Crackle....which is similar to Netflix...but free.

Roku is not bad, but I prefer Amazon Fire TV Stick. The regular Fire TV is overkill for most people. I'm sure they'll have them on sale for black Friday.

Are you guys doing that just to save money? We cut the cord in May but didn't replace it with anything. The idea was to raise our daughter outside. Since then we've started a small farm and have spent exponentially more time doing things as a family rather than watching tv. With the exception of a game, or two, and some golf tournaments, I haven't missed it. Even hunting shows were getting ridiculous with all the advertising.

Look into a fire stick that that runs Kodi, it's going to cost little more but the advantages are tons of sports, live streaming and free UFC, we have a chrome box that set up for Kodi and it's a little bit of a pain to navigate but we get free everything, it's worth looking into

For those with Hulu, Crackle, Net Flix, what kind of internet plans do you need? Is there a minimum speed and data allowance?

This all looks interesting. I would love to tell Dish to take a hike!

You can probably get away with as little as 10 mbps internet, but that's if the only thing going on is you watching one program on one tv. If someone else in your house is on the computer or ipad using the same wifi, then you'll need more. Ours ranges from 10-60 depending on our signal strength (Verizon mifi throught he local school system for $48 a month unlimited data) and we only have issues if we are streaming something on the tv and the ipad at the same time when the signal isn't strong.

I have a 8 mbps DSL connection and dont have any issues with watching Netflix and using the internet on my tablet at the same time, including watching a different video stream. I am sure that during peak time I am not getting 8 mbps either.
