I’m running in circles trying to figure out what to do with my hunting rifle in 6.5 PRC. I currently have a Tikka stainless in the Stockys VG stock. I’m considering moving it over to a manners eh1 and ordering an 18/20” prefit barrel over a Black Friday sale. The easy button is the Seekins PH2. The barrel will be longer than I really want, but will come threaded. I’ll be into the Tikka for more money after the manners and barrel. What would you all do!

As a guy who owns a handful of Tikkas, one about to be “semi custom” I’d go with a seekins. They are fantastic and after I bought my tikka action, new barrel, xlr chassis and stock, and gun smithing fees. I could have bought the seekins and saved a bit of money….

I was planning on the havak ph2…have you compared it with the Element? I like the shorter barrel of the element for shooting suppressed.

The ability to have prefits and endless customizable options make it an easy Tikka choice imo. Even if you do spend more money, the fun will be exactly what you decided it should be.

I’m about $1100 in currently with the stainless t3x in the stockys VG. If I stay with this I’ll probably get an unknown munitions prefit and call it good.

I’ve only handled the ph2. I think if you already have the action and stock the barrel upgrade will save you some coin, but going after a whole new rifle I would go with seekins, I have a carbon6 barrel on the way for a tikka 6cm convert, so we will see how it goes

I don’t like the seekins stock (grip is too bulbous) or bolt throw, so tikka for me.

I like the Seekins I ponder this thing a lot but 385 for an ace prefit or 800 ish for a proof. If you have an action I don’t know why you wouldn’t keep it… unless you just have to have the itch to buy a manners

I had a Seekins Havak Element in 7 PRC and it was a great gun. But when I’d let that one cool and pickup my semi custom Tikka, I had a hard time switching back. Tikkas action is second to none in my opinion. The factory Seekins stock is good, but not great (better than a lot tho). It shot well, but it also being so dang light, it kicked pretty hard. It didn’t bother me, but it was noticeable.

For me I’d go semi custom Tikka. You can build one for about the same (maybe a touch more). Get whatever barrel you want (twist, length, profile, etc), add a little weight over the Seekins and have a more enjoyable shooting experience.

The barrel channel on the stockys is for the factory barrel…I’d have to open it up a bit if I went with the proof. Which I’m assuming isn’t too difficult. I’m wanting to keep it lightweight so planning to go with a 20” barrel or maybe even 18”.

Where do you see a prefit barrel for $385? Is that directly through ace or somewhere else? And that’s for a tikka?

What are you trying to achieve? After having the EH1 for a while now, shooting it a lot and hunting with it twice, I actually don’t like it on a hunting rifle. Great for a shooter. Just feels too chonky for a hunting gun.

If I were you, I would take the tikka and chop the barrel to 16”, thread for can then put it in a Peak44 blacktooth. Use UM tikka rings with whatever scope you want.

I just don’t see the point in changing the barrel from what you have and you may not like the EH1 so much more over the stockys to justify the price. Start with the barrel chop and thread and go from there, you may be satisfied with just that.

I’m wanting a lightweight hunting rifle, but not too lightweight where I don’t like to shoot it. With the suppressor, the shorter barrel is a must. I haven’t looked at the peak44 stocks yet. I’ll check those out.

Cut your factory tikka stainless barrel to 18” and thread it for a suppressor. It will likely be more accurate and will 100% last longer than whatever prefit you buy for it.

For a hunting gun the Stockys VG2 is a better shooting stock than the manners.

You already have an excellent hunting rifle. Go kill with it.

You really aren't shedding a significant amount of weight going to a different carbon fiber stock or to a pre-fit barrel. The stainless lite Tikka profile is already pretty thin and the Stockys will be easier to shoot than the ultralight stocks from Peak44.

Stick with your Tikka. Post your entire build here and let's see if there's elsewhere you can shed weight.

If you truly want to go to something lighter, build one of these... UL AR.
