Not sure if this belongs in the DIY section, but I had to share. I designed a custom bag for my Stone Glacier Evo frame. I contacted Pods8 and gave him a drawing and the dimensions I wanted and we emailed back and forth about the details until everything was dialed.
It took a few months because he had a backlog of orders, but this week my bag showed up and it is absolutely awesome! It fits my frame perfectly and the stitching and attention to detail are excellent. He built in every feature I requested and even offered ideas of his own.
The design is really minimalist. I based it loosely off the dimensions of the Solo 3300 because that size works great for me up to 5 days. It's slightly more narrow and not quite as deep, but it's taller with a roll top so I think the volume is actually larger than 3300.
There is no main zipper because I realized I hardly ever access the main bag as long as I have some pockets on the outside to compartmentalize the items I use regularly. It has two front pockets that cover the whole face of the pack with stretchy fabric on the inside and two cinch side pockets. It has X-pac against the frame and on the bottom like SG uses. It also has attachments for a Stone Glacier lid to give more pack volume if needed.
I weighed it and it came in 2 ounces more than my Solo 3300. So I got more volume in a more streamlined pack that is expandable, with side pockets, and an extra exterior pocket for only two ounces. Definately happy and I would recommend Rugged Stitching (pods8 on this forum) to anyone looking to build a custom pack.
