Custom mini Canadian belt knife

Here are a few I just finished up. The top one is essentially a Grohmann clone, the second is the AKBK (Alaskan Belt Knife) that @Thegman and I have been working on, and the bottom is a Canadian-ish style skinner for one of our fine members.

They all look very nice and I am sure they will all work well. The middle one looks like the love child of a CBK and a Loveless semi-skinner - and I say that as a complement (y)

I have a more detailed post on my knife builds thread, but just wanted to add the CBKs I finished a couple of weeks ago. I made 2 very similar knives. One is based on the Cold Steel copy of the CBK, plus other based on the original.

In my opinion the one area for improvement on the original is the handles. They are mass produced slabs with minimal shaping, so I made mine with a much more rounded handle and a palm swell. But otherwise they are pretty authentic to the original.

Both are 2.5mm Nitro V stainless. The blade is 4 inches with a full flat grind. One set of handles is black micarta with G10 liners and the other is camo G10 with G10liners.

I like the small ricasso with no choil on that camo version. Very nice work sir.

Idk what everyone's obsession with shitting on MKC. Sure they are pricey for a production knife, but seems odd how many stones seem to be thrown.

Did I shit on them? This is simply a report with quantitative data that is at odds with their marketing. The OP on Reddit reports hardness tests of many different knives. He is not singling out MKC at all.

I personally think White River has better HRC on Magnacut and better knives than MKC. Also better prices. I got a free hat from WR if anyone wants it. Too big for my head.

Not you specifically, just in general. Josh seems like a decent fella and trying to make a successful American company employing Americans.

I think it's easy/fun to hate on them due to their chosen marketing strategy of influencers, drops, and general social media usage.

Josh seems like a good dude and someone you could have a beer or go on hunt with, but some of the content and the drop model is a rough go. I did like the barklow collab series on youtube.

I'll probably never buy one due to their social media and drop model, but suspect they get more customers than they lose with this model. Also, I'm hopefully all set on knives after getting my custom CBK from @Slalomnorth.

I agree that it is easy to hate on them for all the things mentioned above, but as @ckt3 said that is far below advertised hardness on their website. There is a huge difference in performance between a knife heat treated at 58-59 and 63-64. It’s very common amongst production companies $$$$$$, hence why the small custom maker market exists. Maybe they should spend less on social media, advertising, and fluff and make the product they’re advertising

Per your pic, that's the perfect game knife. And beautiful too. No stupid choil, flat grind, and a nice belly. Super nice. Day and night from any production blade.

This is why I bought a knife from you instead.

Idk I just like cool knives from different makers 🤷‍♂️
