Hi there, this is my first post. Really appreciate being able to come pick your brains.
I recently picked up a new rifle and it has me stumped. Ive done a fair amount of research but can't quite figure it out. It is a Peabody and Martini action made by the providence tool company. I'm quite sure it was customized at a later date. The barrel is stamped W. F. Gabbert 7.62/51R 4.5. 1895
The receiver is also stamped 4.5. 1895. So I thought it was a 7.62x51. I'm confused because of the R behind the 7.62x51. The chamber also looks to me like its for a rimmed cartridge but I can't be sure. I can't find anything online about a rimmed 7.62x51, except some say thats the same thing as a 30 30 win. Wrllbthis is definitely not a 30 30. A 30 30 shell is fairly loose in the chamber and the extractor doesn't catch it. Any help would be much appreciated. I'll try to upload some pics.
