Hey everyone. Has anyone here made a pack-liner out of Cuben Fiber material? It seems like it would be a great super light weight material to make one with. I thought about doing a pack cover for rain but now think the liner would be a better option as a dual purpose liner since I pack out Boned meat in my pack. Seam like it would weigh a fraction of what a 6mill bag would weigh, tougher, and could be rinsed and reused over and over. I was thinking taped seams and either a roll top or a Kevlar draw string for the top. Any thoughts?

Figure up how much material you will need and multiply that by the material weight by the yard of different materials to see if the weight savings is worth the price increase. Cuben fiber is high. Silnylon would be very similar in weight for something that size and would be much cheaper. You can get it in 1.1 oz.

Well I ended up ordering some .051 and some .80 grey Cuben Fiber to make a few things. Just changing out the original stuffsacks for the sleeping pad, first-aid kit, sleeping bag Etc. I have knocked off almost 8 ozs of the total pack weight. I also made a pack liner. This stuff is extremely strong for its weight and it is thin enough where you can see whats inside each sack. I was surprised how easy and fast it was to make these sacks. I used 3M F9460PC, 0.5" tape for all the seam work and 300lb spectra fishing line which I had for the drawstrings. So no sewing was involved. I have enough material left to make a few more sacks so will be back at it again tonight. Going to get rid of a few more ziplock bags.

Awesome idea. How much was the material and where did you get it? Post some pics if you find time. I wanna check it out!

I got the Cuben fiber from Ripstop by the roll and the 3M F9460PC tape from Amazon.I watched this video on how to make the sacks then decided on the sizes I wanted. The material came to $69 and the 60yd roll of tape was $25 I have made 4 sacks so far and have enough material to make 3-4 more depending on the size of the sack. The pack liner was 36 X 20 so it was a big sack. The others are much smaller. Pretty impressed withe the Cuben fiber tape combination very very strong connections. I used a small hard roller on the seams to get a good bond. I do believe it will be worth the money when done. It is a lot cheaper then buying the sacks premade and then they are not the sizes you really need. I made my own corner sictkers with the tape and Cuben fiber.

Here is the video I found.
