Everyone who expressed interest should be added to 3 separate DM chains now.

@sndmn11 the range idea is a good one but IMO anyway may be tough to be real objective just looking at bullet holes. And if it’s snowing here it will likely be snowing a bit north.

If others are game though I’m just a passenger at this point ;). Expect more info this evening.

Folks who are in the DMs please push availability this Sunday (1400-1730 or so) and next Saturday (same times) as the weather backups. Apple WX still showing 50% chance of showers this Saturday.

It’s one of the few scopes I’ve never looked through. Personally I’m excited just to see how good it is. A few years ago there were some threads comparing the Kowa 88 to it and it was pretty split….which is impressive because many say the Kowa 88 is best in the biz. The s2 is a bit cheaper and with the 70x eyepiece offers a bit more zoom over the competition.

Honestly “comparing” it to what we have coming won’t be too fair. It’s a 85 class alpha spotter (IMO). It “ should” smoke all the 65 and 55 we have. Im thinking it will have advantage over the Kowa 77 too.
Cool, sounds good! Looking forward to seeing how the 30-60 compares to the others, as well as any Kowa 88s. If mainbeam pursuit2 ends up not being available, let me know and I can get you my S2 20-70x. I'm in eastern central Colorado Springs.

Weather Decision Point (echoed on DM)

As mentioned early in the week and per the attached....Saturday is looking pretty rough and it appears on my forecasts at least to extend till Sunday morning. Another downside of snow is we will lose almost all contrast in colors...which isn't ideal.

I would like to propose that we flex until next Saturday at 1400. The very long range forecast shows minimal chance for storms. It will be a tad chilly then. If that takes someone completely out (especially someone who has some optics we want to compare), please let me know. This gives a few folks still waiting for some optics a bit more time too.

Got some optics comparison scouting in today. (Photos from 500’ hill behind stadium over looking parking lots and tree lines).

Very interested to see how the atc stacks up against the kowas (77, 66)
And Kowa 880s it’s only 7 oz more than the 770s and weighs the same as the new 66a. I know it’s more volume but… I’m thinking it’s going to be a good compromise.

I’m confused… Kowa 88 weighs 65oz. Kowa 77 weighs 59 oz.

66a weighs 53oz. (All with eyepiece).

Maybe a typo but 66 will be lighter than both by a bit. Have a feeling it won’t be in same league as Kowa 88 but based on a few other reviews darn close to the 77. Question will be is cost worth the weight/size savings. I speculate not…..but alas the 77 isn’t made anymore ;(.

I probably read it wrong. I thought I heard in the s&s archery review that the 66a is heavier than the 773. Then when I looked up the weight of the 883 it was only 7 oz heavier than the 773. I haven’t weighed any of them it just what I found on the ol interweb.

Where I may be going wrong is some are weights with eyepieces and others are without. I was having a hard time figuring that out.

Edit: I think that’s exactly what I was doing. Weight of the 66a with eyepiece vs the other two without.
