Crocs in the backcountry?

I don’t use them or own any. Too bulky for the backcountry and too ridiculous looking for day to day life.

For the Backcountry, I carry some zero drop sandals that are super low profile and light weight.

Pretty essential piece of equipment in my book. Hang them from a carabiner on the outside of your pack. They weigh nothing.

I have to say crocs may look ridiculous but are extremely comfortable. Looks mean nothing and function is everything

They don't grip wet rock particularly well. I'd say the only advantage of them over what I use, which have a more grippy sole, is the toe protection. But again, I don't like the bulkiness of crocs and, with a size 13, they are kinda of ridiculous in terms of volume. I did try a pair a few years ago and they annoyed me quite a bit -with a high lime content in most of the water in this area, creek crossings can be very slick. They also took longer for my feet to dry out after getting wet after fishing and then wearing around camp. IMO< low profile sandals with a proper sole are a better choice.

crocs came out in 2002 and every backcountry hunt since the fall of 03' i've had a pair strapped to the outside of my pack

I don't. They just seem lacking for about everything but standing around.

I like a pair of Norty water shoes. Great for creek crossing, slip less, dry quick, not heavy.

If a person just wants a kick around shoe for camp, there are a lot of lighter options. If a person is looking for a shoe for fording there are definitely better options.

When I went up to the Brooks Range I was told there was a likelihood of needing to ford potentially dicy streams. I finally settled on a pair of Arcteryx Novan LD trail runners—Vibram outsole, full lace-up (I don't trust a loose fitting shoe w/ a single strap around the ankle) and weigh roughly the same as a pair of Crocs.

While certainly not optimal, if I ever had a full blown boot failure, I'd feel a lot more confident hiking out in a light trail runner vs Crocs.

The downside—you can buy five pairs of Crocs for the price of one pair of the Novan's and Crroc's are definitely sexier :ROFLMAO:

Crocs or hey dudes for me with a pair of thick socks in the fall. Camp shoes at the end of the day make me feel all warm and fuzzy in the backcountry.

They're nice to have when you get to camp, but pretty bulky for the pack in. I like a smaller, lighter option like an Exped Camp Slipper.

Had a buddy go a week in the Idaho Sawtooths in just crocs. Only complaint was going through prickers. If you want to save weight…

You don't bring a spare heel strap? Rookie. I'm stocked up since my pup went through a a phase of 2wd conversion on all our crocs.

Hahaha I when I did it it ripped the grommet out

Last weekend though I tried just using the compression strap on the pack. Yeah I don't like how they hang.

I've had the same pair since '06. Turbo mode went out long time ago, bottoms are smooth. Still use them daily to slide on to cook on the Blackstone etc. Still have them for every camp trip, truck camping or backpacking in.
Makes the midnight piss breaks much easier than fighting with boots etc, when ground is wet, snowy. Who does that? People who don't know Croc!
I don't want anything to do with a camp shoe that needs tying etc. gotta be slip on.
