I saw Arons video on making your own dehydrated meals and it really peaked my interest. I'm guessing there are a lot of others who do the same thing and I was wondering about which dehydrators people are using. Mine is an older Ronco "As seen on TV" model that my grandmother gave me that she never used haha.

It works great for duck jerky but I fear that the vented trays would allow any juices from a crock pot meal to fall right though to the bottom heat core. Are there solid trays out there for such a task?

Use tray liners. There are aftermarket liners for both square dehydrators like the Excalibers and the round ones by Harvest (?).

You can also use parchment paper or waxed paper to line the trays. When your product hardens up a little and stops being wet and moves toward gooey, you can flip the product over directly onto the screen tray and it will start speeding up the process.

You need temperature control, but time control is not a must have as long as you are monitoring the process. Excalibers have both built in to all but their cheapest machines.

So where do I find Aron's video? I dehydrate on wax paper lined cookie sheets in the oven at 150* with the door cracked & a fan blowing in one side. Not real precise...
