Alright guys I’m going on a north slope caribou hunt in august and I’m looking for some heavier duty boots for trekking across the tundra. I was planning on buying the crispi guide gtx, but saw that Schnee was having a sale and I can get the beartooth for about 150 bucks cheaper right now. Anyway I was hoping to hear feedback about each boot, thanks

Fit is everything. The only way to know is try them out, what works for me does'nt matter. I have not tried either of those boots. I just bought Lowa's based on trying them on and walking around four times at four different places. The last place was a specialist store that has a podiatrist and advanced scanners etc. to help people with orthotics and corrective shoes. They have a repair /alteration shop on site. Had my foot sized on a scanner that measured volume, my arches, width. Ended up in a wide sz 10. Before the scan I was prepared to buy a 9.5. I wore them in my house for a few days and have now decided they fit great. Went on my walk with a weighted pack last night and confirmed. Most of my other boots are 9.5 . The Zamberlans these replaced are just slightly shorter as in 1/4'' to 3/8 ''extra length compared to 1/2''.

I agree with what others have said. My added advice is to order both and compare and then return the one you like less. The money you spend on return shipping, or the price difference is insignificant in the big picture once you have well-fitting boots that will last for several years. Boots that cause feet discomfort will ruin a hunting trip as much as anything else.

Thats the issue because I live in Oklahoma so I am a long ways from anywhere that sells either boot.

I wouldn't be hung up on having to have Crispi or Schnees either. I see so many people here and on other hunting sites that are so set on having to have one of these two brands that they are ignoring the fact that there are dozens of other brands that make hiking and mountaineering boots.

Garmont, Scarpa, Lowa, Danner, LaSportiva, Salomon, Asolo, Merrell, just to name a few off the top of my head. The most important thing is the fit, all boots are made from different foot patterns so it's important to try as many boots on from different brands to find the ones that fit your foot the best out of the box. You have to have a local shop somewhere that carries a number of hiking boots that you can try on.

I'd give up long term durability for proper fit and comfort any time. You can replace boots, having your feet hurt at the end of the day or your feet giving out on a pack out because you are wearing torture devices on your feet is not the way to go.

I love Crispi. I have 5-6 pairs. It's all about fit though. Schnees makes a great boot. So do Lowa, Hanwag, Scarpa, Hoffman, Kenetrek and others. I've owned them all. Crispi fits my foot the best. Some models of Crispi are also better for me than others. Most places will allow you to order and return as long as you don't dirty them up. At one point, I ordered $5k worth of boots and tried a dozen or more pairs and ended up keeping the Crispi.

I live in Oklahoma as well and a trip to Scheel's in Texas is worth it. They have crispi and Kenetrek to try on. That being said, I have a pair of bear tooth boots and crispi summit GTX and both are great boots and I have no complaints on either.

What size are you in each brand? I’ve read the schnees are narrower. I have a pair of summits so looking for comparison.

I have a 10.5 in each. I haven't noticed the Schees being any narrower than the Crispi. The Schnees do have the lace lock and that makes the fit seem top notch and the Crispi does not have that feature. I had Schnees size me at the DSC expo in Dallas this winter.

Please don't forget about this boot. Our Hoffman Explorer is a great boot for the person looking for a stiffer boot for stability but also with a tapered midsole, adds some flex to the front of the boot......the perfect balance.
