CRISPI DISAPPOINTMENT

Here are my 6 year old Crispis, which get worn every other day and have 1,000’s miles on them. Yes the tread is gone in some spots but they are still water tight. My other Crispis are 3 and 4 years old and are holding up great.

Nothing but fantastic customer service from Crispi when I contacted them with my recent boot issue.

I had bought a pair of Briksdals in November of 2023 and shortly after I started wearing them I had some pressure on the side of the toe with the left boot. I figured it was a break-in thing and would go away. I set them aside and occasionally wore them but the problem persisted. Completely my fault but by the time I got around to contacting Crispi, they were 1.5 years old and out of warranty.

I fully expected Crispi to tell me to pound sand, which I deserved, but I sent pics and they told me to send them back for inspection. They arrived at Crispi on a Thursday morning and by Thursday afternoon I had an email saying they were sending me a new pair of boots.

Great and fast service. Way better than any other boot company I've dealt with.

Crispi is a new player in the footware game. Go with tried and true long term players like Lowa, Zamberlan, Meindl, and Scarpa. I doubt you will have the same issues with them coming apart like Crispi.

I stand corrected. It’s funny how all the big box stores like Scheels and several hunting supply companies are pushing Crispi all of a sudden. I have never heard of them up until a few years ago.

They lacked a US distributor for a long time

Big fan of the Valdres. They are not super stiff like hiking boots, offering the support I like. Every pair has fit me like they are custom made for me, no weird seams, one tighter than the other variance between sizes, etc. Factory insoles are perfect for my feet. Of course that is a personal thing, others seem to have a better fit with other brands/green feet insoles, etc. I wear them for work, the company clearly states they are not work boots. I go through a pair every 2-2.5 years, I alternate between 2 pairs. I have noticed that the leather starts cracking about a year or a little more in. I use Obenoufs on them, maybe there is a better product. They are ok for waterproofness, that seems to vary from pair to pair.

For me, nothing comes close. I’ll keep buying them, usually at Black Ovis.

Is anyone here who has had good luck with crispi boots weighing more than 180 lbs? Just body weight, not the additional pack and gear weight. This seems to be one of the deciding factors with boot durability. They scale up for size but not increased weight.

I'm 215 now but have been up to 250 and no, I haven't had a boot/hiker remain waterproof over the last 25 years and more than a dozen different pairs. 160# friends have no issues.
As for crispi, my monaco's leaked the second they saw moisture but Crispi replaced them instantly.

I am 270 Lbs and beat the shit out of boots, just my size alone seems to crush them, my Nevadas have held up extremely well.

Yep. Opening week of MT rifle.
My oldest son wore Wild Rock GTXs opening week of MT. The leather was tore up, the leather didn’t repel rain/snow, the rand was beginning to delaminate and they looked 10 years. Customer service was absolute shit. They recommended we buy their boot grease, pay to ship the boots in for repair, and pay for the repairs. They were worn 8 days!! Get Scarpas.

I agree with you on the Scarpas.
But damn guy those boots are dry as week old turd in the desert.
Did you wax them before the hunt?
They look like they’ve been dragged over a lot of deadfall.
My hunting associate does that and his Kenetreks look the same. He also only waxes them once a year.

Yeah, desert turd for sure!
Got them brand new and treated them with Graingers before opening week. Yes, plenty of rock and downfall, but the leather is just shit, belly hide leather. They would get wet, we would dry them slowly with a Peet propane boot dryer and that’s what they looked like after a week of hunting and packing 3 bulls. Disappointing because we’d heard good things about the boots. We won’t deviate from Grand Dru and Phantoms again.

Good to know, thanks.
I wear the scarpa kinesis pro & Kenetrek MT extreme. Hate the k talon tread on the kenetrek.
This will be my son’s 1st year elk hunting. So helping him in the boot search.
Been seeing a few threads on issues with crispi and their bad warranty policies.

I've worn Nevadas for 3 years in rainy coastal hunts to dry desert hunts, 100s of miles total and just now the rubber layer is starting to slightly de-laminate from the leather at the toe crease on the sides of the boot. Would buy again.

Yes, I have had good luck with Crispi boots. I'm 215. I run the Altitudes and the guides. Recently I got a new pair of Altitudes. Like the OP posted about. I had the heel stitching come apart. I emailed Crispi and they were very helpful. Definitely have no complaints.

Those look good for being 6 years old. How often do you clean and treat your boots?

I’ve tried a couple sets of crispis, didn’t have luck with 2 of the 3. Same as hanwags. My kennetrek mountain extremes I purchased In July of 2014 will be going in for repairs for the very first time. Those boots have been bomb proof, I didn’t wax them the first 2 years owning them, improperly stored them with cow manure on them all spring and summer the 4th year, they held up great to the 100+ mountain miles they see and all the summer pack training. My only complaint with that boot is the weight, hence me looking for a better&lighter option. Schnees boots intrigue me… also I thought cabelas boots were made by Irish setter? I never want to like their boots, but for tree stand hunting and swamp/marsh hunting they seem to fit my foot the best and I do not like to admit that.

I think there's a big difference with the various materials with Crispi. I've seen a ton of good with the leather based stuff. Seen nothing but issues with synthetic builds. The fit has been incredible as has the waterproofness for me.
