Crispi Briksdal SF

I have the normal Briksdals the 4 flex and they are absolutely amazing. Normal trail flat hiking they are just slightly Frankenstein clunky like barely tho. I wear them everywhere the store the yard I adore them. I took them in sand around some units in Colorado and then straight into vertical canyon scrambling and they never skipped a beat. For any sort of steep vertical they absolutely shine man. Just make sure you got the right size and make sure they are tight with good socks because downhill can cram the toes a bit if the boots loosen up. I used them from steep as hell rocky canyons, to rolling Appalachian hills, to going to the gas station, 5 damn stars.

I'm wondering if there's going to be a noticable difference between the 4 flex and the 5 flex. I'd like a versatile boot. One that works in sheep country and standard hiking applications.

Can’t speak for the 5 flex but that’s why I chose the 4, little more versatility but still solid stiffness. I broke them in by just doing stairs in my house with a ruck pre elk season and barely before the season and they were good, I believe they don’t really need too much break in.

What is your intended use, country, and style of hunting?

4 lbs is getting up there for boot weight! My preference for sheep and goat is a little lighter weight full leather boot similar to the Nevadas or Dakotas that is slightly shorter with more flexibility. I like stiffness in the soles but don't really like stiff uppers. I usually try to cover lots of country so the lighter the boot and the more flexibility that still has stiffness in the soles to cut and hold into hillsides the better. You will likely find that the lighter and more flexible the boot the easier it is to stalk game quietly and the better your legs will feel at the end of each day.....there is always a trade-off! If all you are hunting is steep nasty sidehills and you prefer extra support the Briksdal's are likely a great boot. If not, you may want to try some other options.

Do you feel like the break in time and work required be comparable to a kenentrek boot?

Yes, like the kenes I feel like the break in time was minimal. However, one thing to note. I tried the Crispi's with stock insoles an did not like them, I took my green super feet in and tried them on and walked out with the boots. The insoles made a huge difference.

I hunted in the brooks range in 2012 and used the kenentrek mountain boot, they are close to 4 pounds as well and you're correct. They are a little heavy. I'll be back in the brooks again and was looking at options that were similar, because I think overall the last set of boots I had didnt let me down. I've spent a significant amount of my life under a load in terrain and really never had any catastrophic issues with my feet even in questionable footwear. But I guess I'm one of those guys that's always looking for something new and ideal.

I've done the exact same thing in my crispi THOR and crispi Idaho's. The crispi insoles are not great. But with a new insole it's a totally different boot.

Boots are ordered. Black Ovis has a 20% off sale on all Crispi boots. couldn't resist

I’m looking at the same decision due to the Blackovis sale. I’ve got the Lapponias (2 flex), Wildrock GTX (4 flex) and was trying to figure out if the sale is a good reason to prompt me to get a 3rd pair. Doubt I will mountain hunt so think the SF may be overkill. Based on the stellar review and that folks were the regular Briksdal for daily use, I may pull the trigger.

I have used the birksdall SF for 2 seasons of sheep hunting, I think it’s a great boot, stiffness seems good, especially when carrying weight. IMO they are a bit too stiff for me if I’m not carrying a load, I used them for a 14 mile hike with just a day pack and they weren’t ideal for that.

Did you keep the crispi insoles in yours, or did you change them out?

I had a pair of green superfeet in put in them, not that I mind the ones that it came with but the superfeet are a bit better, I wish they were thinner through, the boots are tighter with them in.

I actually took a pair of NB minimus insoles and put them in my Crispi Idaho's because they were too tight. I wasn't getting great circulation and my feet were getting cold. That changed the entire boot for me. It made them my favorite boot at the time.
