This guy needs to be banned for teasing us like this! Lol

Dude you gotta tell us now!

Fine, I'm about to head to a meeting but I'll type a fast summary.

Me and a friend were on a canyoneering trip in Utah, we got back to the car after dark and started driving back, it was a 2ish hour drive on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Even though we were driving 25-40mph, some sort of huge white animal came after our car from behind and was able to close distance and catch us in the car even though we were driving fairly quickly.

When we got back a hotel that night, we told the folks working at the hotel we stayed at what happened and they basically said " why on earth were you out that way after dark, theres skinwalkers out there".

Now, the part thats creepy is on the drive out, there was a car with a native guy sleeping in it, we could see him clearly as we drove by slowly. When that animal or whatever it was ran next to the car, my buddy made eye contact with it. He swears to this day that it was that guy sleeping in the car, he can't even really explain it but he's sure.

When I typed that I had a story, I'd just gotten back from a bonfire and I'd had a bit of scotch, not a lot but I was loose. I PM'd a couple people this story here, before yesterday, I hadn't even told that story for almost 20 years, literally half my life I havn't told that story, I still havn't even told my wife.

I'll keep these short.

1) Hiking near Big Bend and had a mountain lion follow me for a couple of miles.
2) Hunting in southern AZ and had an up close encounter with a group heading north. Not folks that would be standing in front of Home Deport; crazy-eyed MFs.
3) Scouting for elk in northern AZ and found a pair of young boys shoes about 200 yards from each other. Miles from any road and rough terrain. Looked online for a missing child in the area and found nothing.
4) Haunted hotel in northern AZ. Got to the room and felt a chill out of no where. Phone flashed white and the battery was dead. Phone was fully charged when I walked into that room.
5) Castle in the UK and on the third floor with no rail or fence. Something was urging me to look over the ledge while my brain was saying "no". During this something yanked on my necklace and broke it. No one was around and I got the hell out of there.
6) Hunting in Mexico. Before sunrise looked up and there were 20+ lights evenly spaced and in a row. Just appeared and then disappeared a few moments later.
7) Predador hunting in AZ and before first light. Heard what sounded like an African lion roaring. Kept getting closer. Finally got eyeballs on the source and it was a free-range bull. I named him Mr Ankle Banger.

Like I’ve said man, to hell with the people who are going to say your crazy or whatever disrespectful words they say. Glad you shared, it’s important IMO that more of us who frequent the Backcountry know strange things can happen back there.

Ha! I knew a bunch of those folks when I lived in the road as a young man. Quite the diverse group.

Yea doctors and lawyers was probably not good enough of a broad generalization. My mistake. That’s just how ya locals described them. My high school buddy actually sought them out to party with them that summer. He says it was wild everyone tripping and half naked dancing around lol. I had negative experiences with them, as well as half the county. Lots of vehicles got broke into that summer.

This thread made me think of one, didn't happen to me, but to a good friend. He's in his early sixties and probably 30 years or so ago he was a boy scout leader. For a number of years they would take an overnight canoe trip through the Okefenokee swamp. They'd canoe the the first day until they got to this island and would camp overnight and get up the next day and finish the trip. They went to bed that first night and my buddy has to take a leak in the middle of the night. He goes to the edge of his tent and shines a flashlight out, and there are alligators everywhere, laying all between the tents. He about shit his pants with all those kids out there. Nothing he could do, so he goes back in the tent and waits for daylight. He comes out at daylight and they're all gone. Never said a word to those kids about it, but it about gave him a heart attack.

Dude that's creepy as hell!!! Thanks for sharing!

Skinwalkers have freaked me out since I was a kid, I don't know what exactly it is but Skinwalker and the Wendigo are the top legends that just creep me out.

Not backcountry, but whitetail hunting probably 10-12 years ago. I was bow hunting a piece of private property, I was the only person hunting that evening on a couple hundred acres. I was walking out through the middle of it after dark, and of course had forgotten a flashlight. Not a big deal as I walk down the wooded side of a fence that bordered planted pines and a large open field with plenty of moon light. I'm probably 1/4 mile or so from the truck and from behind me as I walk down the fence line I hear a very distinct sound of wood hitting wood. Like someone hit a fence post with a wooden bat or a 2x4. I stop and turn around and yell "Whos there!?!" and the the knock rings out again. It seems so close to me that I can't believe I can't see what is making the sound. Again, KNOCK! Very very loud and seemingly even closer. Very controlled sound, not limbs breaking and hitting the ground or anything. Just loud, hollow sounding knocks. I nock an arrow and draw back and I'm trying to look down the fenceline around my bow and I scream "I'M GOING TO SHOOT! FVCK OFF!!!" and I never heard it again. I walked backwards quickly down the fenceline and ran to my truck when I got to the road.

After reading all the creepy stories about burial grounds and natives, I thought of one from back in high school. A buddy and I were out shed hunting near an area that was rumored to be an old Native American burial ground. We knew about the rumors, but really didn't think much of it. We finished up the walk and decided to take a short cut back to the truck through an open prairie field. As we're walking, we started to notice lots of depressions and small mounds. About half way through the field we both had a strange feeling come over us like we were being followed, but there was nothing in site. We quicken our pace a bit and started to hear rustling in the grass and the wind picked up a lot! We started running and had the feeling like something was physically pulling on the back of our shirts. As soon as we got across the field and back on the road it all just stopped. The wind pretty much quit and the strange feelings went away. When we got back to the truck we both had kind of an itchy feeling. Upon closer inspection, it appeared as if we both had scratch marks from fingernails going down our backs. We each had two perfect sets of 4 scratches about 8-10" long on our upper back. Never went back to that area again. I'm getting chills as I type this.

Twelve years ago I bought a camp in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Like most people with a new place, I spent a lot of time up there year round for the first few years. So one weekend in February 9 years ago I decided to go on a hike. It was late morning the sun was out and there was a good 18 inches of snow on the ground. I grabbed my old Remington speedmaster .22 LR in case I found a porcupine or something. I love that beat up old gun and bought it for my trapline when I was 16. Anyways my camp consists of a long maple ridge with a swamp to the east and west of it that consists of white cedar, tamarack and balsam fir. I broke a trail to the back of the property in the heart of the east swamp. As I walked down the back property line I came to a 3 acre clearing which was deep swamp with a patchwork of tall grass but no trees. The cedars and tamaracks lined the outer ring of the opening. As I walked the edge of the clearing a crow took flight from the forest floor on the other side of it to my left, so I decided to go investigate. Figuring a deer carcass may be over there, I made my way closer. When I made it to the site, sure enough there was a patch of deer fur along with what looked like a wolf track that was a day or 2 old. I decided to take up the track to see if I could find the carcass or what remained of it as it was heading back to the property line anyway within the aforementioned clearing. I made it 60 feet further when I found part of a deer leg. “Huh, a yearling” I said to myself as I looked up. I took one more step when a figure stood up in the grass not 30 feet in front of me. Then 2 more. Wolves! My heart went into overdrive. They merely stood up headed off to my left and we’re joined by 3 more. I watched them trot off into the thicket but the last 2 stopped just inside the tree line 50 feet away and looked at me for a moment before they followed. I remember thinking at the time that if they really wanted to kill me as I walked into their kill sight they had plenty of opportunity. I also felt helpless realizing that if they did my little speedmaster wouldn’t have been enough to stop them. Wolves are big critters, especially when there’s 2 alphas in the pack. I’m proud to say I didn’t stain my shorts but I did have a couple shots of whiskey when I made it back to camp.

My friend decided to go extra light weight sheep hunting,,, he only took 5 bullets,,, big mistake when he dropped into the lower valley of wolves...

Did you know that 5 shots is barely enough to fend off a pack of hungry carnivores,,, he got lucky that day...

Nothing wrong with packing light-weight,,, its wize to know how much to limit ones self protection if things go south in the back country.

You wouldn’t happen to be from the part of Alabama that is said to be home to the Wooly Booger, would you?

One night I was walking out of the bushes by moonlight. The afternoon has consisted of a few hours of misting rain, that broke into clear skies right at sunset. I had a pretty decent walk ahead of me, but it was easy walking and the moon was shining bright enough to make my way out since the weather broke. As I was heading out, something occurred that had my insides almost touching cotton. About 25 yards ahead of me, I heard what sounded like a bag of sacrete hitting the ground simultaneous with a guttural growl, then utter silence.

When it happened I immediately hit my headlamp, drew my knife and yielded my bow like a ball bat. The next couple miles to the truck I was on edge with my knife in hand. When I got back to the safety of the truck, I did some impartial reflection.

I think it was a b-bear I bumped into. The wind was in my face on that part of my trek out. I think I walked up on the bear, and it had stood on its hind legs to see what I was. Upon realizing it needed to hit the bricks, it came down and let out the air in its diaphragm. I couldn’t hear it’s retreat since the woods were wet from rain. Or it was a big foot orgy that I broke up. Either way, the pucker factor was real.

Cant say I’ve heard of it, I’m tucked deep in the SE corner, 10-15 miles from GA, 35-40 miles from FL.

Something made the sound I heard, I’ve spent thousands of hours in the woods and I’ve been creeped out by natural sounds before but nothing about this was natural. Go hit a fence post with a 2x4, and that is key for key the sound that I heard 3 times, seemingly within 50 feet of me, with no humans within a mile.

I’ve got a buddy that has family down around your part of the state. He used to make an annual trip down for y’alls whitetail rut and would return with second hand campfire stories of the wooly booger (Alabama Sasquatch). I heard everything from knocking trees to dismembering domestic hogs and cattle.

This article (for what it’s worth) https://www.al.com/living/2017/01/bigfoot_hunters_say_claw_marks.html is in the realm of Alabama Bigfoot. I can’t seem to find the articles that used to be out there about hog dismembering.

One time driving through the Lamar Valley, I got a tip that there was an elk kill on a ridge north of the road, so I grabbed my camera and headed up. Halfway up, I came around a little pine tree, heard a massive "WHOOSHHH" intake of breath, and suddenly a grown grizz was standing right there in front of me. I yelled my head off, and he hightailed it up the other side of the draw....so far so good.

Little more elevation, a game trail wound up around a flat rock outcropping, perfect place for an animal to be chilling, so I approached pretty slowly. Just as I cleared the rim, a massive woolly head tossed up, and a bull bison jumped to his feet- I nearly jumped out of my skin! My knees were shaking by this point.

Little more elevation. Stopped to rest, watch the back trail, saw movement...fur and a long, bushy tail...for one second, thought it was a lion, then it came into the light, saw a big coyote, following my footsteps up the ridge...it passed by a few feet away from me, tongue hanging out, Wiley look on its face, never even glanced at me. Ok. Keep moving up.

Turned a corner into a small basin nearly at the top of the ridge, ran right into a gathered pack of wolves, at least 6-8, not really sure...they scattered in all directions the second I came into view. Got all around me on the rim of the basin, and started howling in unison, as the sun was setting....probably the eeriest moment of my life. At this point I booked it off that damn ridge...

what did the wolves do?

They encircled him in the thick of things,,, it was not a good situation to be in since he couldn't barley see them little lone get a clean shot to knock them down...

He's had a few encounters over the years,,, but nothing like that hunt,,, he's now packing bear spray and 2 hand fulls of ammo...

Arizona Deer scouting in 2017 came across some kind of sweat lodges. At the site there was a wood pole with various pieces of fabric tied to it and a huge sea shell at the bottom. Also some kind of dream catcher hung in a tree. Anyone know more about these kind of sites? The unit I was in borders a reservation.
