My guide had some weird pictures of this guy on his trail cams. Spot is pretty remote and well marked with his ground blind setup, and a few trail cams. Lots of elk, turkey, and cows around. Dude is on camera, all sweaty, hunting in nothing but his red skivvies, boots, bow, and sunglasses - miles from anywhere. Creeping around the water hole looking at sign, makes the worst sounding calls you ever heard, then disappears over a little hill into the adjacent draw. Comes back to the water hole about 20 min later.

So on this hunt in Utah, guide sets me up in a ground blind over a water hole and I decide to sit it all day and its hot as hell. Hear some elk midday in the adjacent draw…

There is an island 30 miles out in Lake Michigan called North Fox. In the 1970s, it was owned by a rich doctor, who was part of a child murder/pornography ring. He built an airstrip on the Island, and cabin. His group would fly young boys under the guise of "summer camp" to photograph and molest them. The doctor was charged and fled the country, never to be seen again. The island went into tax arrears, and is now owned by the state. My girlfriend and I often fly out there for a remote experience and beautiful star gazing....but its still creepy to know what went on here. When I was a kid, the kids about my age were disappearing where I lived, and it was actually this group that was doing it!
Here's a pod cast about it:

And some of our pictures from going there, including the cabin (now burnt down) where this happened:

I lived in Oakland County at the time and was the same age as Timothy King when he was killed. It was a crazy time. We weren’t allowed to be as “free range” as we were before. This case was brought up on a few crime docs recently and it just brought back some creepy memories.
thanks for posting those Fox Is pics. Creepy AF.

Just before opening day of elk season, we were in camp about 4 miles from the road. About 2:00am amid the snoring and moaning a spike started bugling. Evidently my mares were the object of his affection. He stood on top of the outcrop just above the tent and screamed his lungs out till daylight and then disappeared before shooting light. I think everyone looked for him especially hard but we never saw him or heard him again.

Another time after a long 6hr ride, we settled down to eat dinner. The horses were curried and fed and one of the guys had started a fire in front of the tent. As the first bite of a dutch oven pot roast approached our lips, a mountain lion screamed just below the tent. Things got really quiet. He had all of our attention, especially the horses. Once again we never heard from it again. Things in the woods make you think.

yeah it was creepy. I was close to his age too (I'm born in 1967). My friends and I would keep watch for AMC Gremlins as that was the car reportedly used to kidnap him from Birmingham. If we saw a Gremlin, we all ran home.

This is not my story, and it did not happen while hunting, but it is without a doubt the creepiest thing I’ve ever heard of happening in the backcountry. And even though it isn’t my story, I fully believe the person who told it to me.

My friend’s mom is a big backpacker. In the 80’s she hiked a pretty large portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. On some of her trips she would go solo. This was one of those trips. She was out there for a little over a week, just hiking and taking pictures and camping along the trail. Anyway, trip goes off without a hitch and she had a great time.

Now mind you, this was back before digital cameras, so after she got back from her trip she went to get her film developed. She got her pictures back and was looking through them when suddenly her heart dropped. Amongst the pictures she took of all the great landscapes were multiple pictures taken at night of her sleeping. Remember, she was solo on the trip. Some one had seen her on the trail, snuck into her camp at night and took pictures of her while she slept. For some reason I want to say there were pics from multiple places she stayed, like the dude had been following her, but I might be making that part up.

She never went solo again.

Good reason to have a dog on the trip. I camped for 45 years by myself. Dogs and horses allow you to sleep peacefully without suprises.

I set up my wall tent for work in a drainage . I the middle of the night the dog started growling. I opened the tent just in time to see two cow elk staring at the tent. Evidently they had never seen one.

Okay, that's by far the creepiest one I have read yet.

There’s been a ton of crazy, flat out spooky stories on this thread, but this one takes the cake for me so far. I like the part how she never went solo again. If that shit had happened to me, I’d probably take up dodge ball at the local YMCA

Not a super exciting story but one that creeped me out nonetheless. It was more so a scaredy cat moment on my part haha

Me and my girlfriend, now wife, did a road trip out to Haida Gwaii back in 2017. We walked on the fairy and rented an older ford truck on the island. The whole island kinda gave me an eery feeling, just being in this weird overgrown rainforest environment that i was not used to. Lots of people seemingly squatting on crown land everywhere as well.

Anyway, after a day of crabbing, we jumped in the truck and were looking for somewhere to set up a camp. we had been just setting up down old logging roads. We took a turn off the highway onto one and kept following it, thinking we might get a good spot with a view. The trail kept getting narrower and narrower the farther we went. Way the hell back in there, we hit a small clearing, with a very narrow trail exiting the back. It seemed like a good spot and the trail looked like it would lead to a river. There were no tracks into the clearing so it seemed we would have some privacy. We got out of the truck and it was just impenetrable regrowth on every side of the clearing, and I was getting that hair standing up on the back of my neck feeling. Kind of a hills have eyes feeling. The sun was going down and the thick brush accelerated it. We decide to check out the narrow trail down to the river but i get maybe five steps down the trail and glance down and sitting in the middle of the trail, on top of the grass and soft soil, is a single kids cats eye marble. it looked like it could have been dropped moments earlier. Freaked me out for some reason and we got out of there.
