Creepy experiences in the backcountry

Probably 30 years ago I used to fish in a man made canal that drew water from the lake and was pumped into a power plant for cooling purposes.
This canal was probably at least 75 feet wide and 10 or 12 feet deep and 4 or 5 mph current. Tremendous number of fish in there at times, the lake was part of the Arkansas River. I fished it mostly at night, standing on the bank and usually wearing hip boots so I could step into the water if need be.
Fishing could be fast or super slow. Sometimes I would fish from maybe 10 at night till daylight. It was pretty dark but I could see well enough to tie on a jig because of the lights on the plant a little over a 1/4 mile away. Often there was no one around and I would be casting a jig up stream and letting it bounce down the canal bed and just retrieve and cast again. I would be in a zone and suddenly a giant squawk above me. I looked up and it was a great blue Herron flying by.
Absolutely nothing scary about this if you saw it coming but if you are looking where you were fishing and it was quiet it would make you jump
Who new that Great Blue Herron flew around at night?

I lived on the outskirts of a town in south Arkansas in the 1960s and got up early one morning in November to go go deer hunting before school. I was about 14 at the time and was going to walk a couple miles in the dark to be there when it got light
I we went outside and there was no artificial light but no clouds in the sky so there was starlight and there was sky was swarming with meteors. I had never seen anything like it and have never seen anything like it since the . It really unnerved me and I probably did not walk more than 100 yards before I turned around and went back to the house .
I would love to experience a meteor shower like that again.
