Creedmoor for Brown Bear Hunt

Hunters have been killing big critters with small diameter bullets since their inception. The .22 Hi-Power, .250-3000, and .220 Swift proved that a century ago, and today’s bullets, powders, rifles, and optics have only gotten better.

The key is to hit where you’re aiming. If you do that, little else matters.

Thanks for posting that video - grizzlies and brownies can take an incredible amount of punishment, and are just machines in the wild. Was just gobsmacked on one hunt where we spooked one and it ran through the thickest Alaskan tangles and 1/2 mile up a steep mountainside in what seemed like seconds. Took mine with a 300WBY

Great Bears and Wild Bovines have a well-earned reputation for being hard to kill. Keep the small bores for sheep.

I have read the opinion that if you take a gun smaller than .338WM as a non-res, it is likely the guide will immediatly follow your shot with one of his own. That, to me, would ruin the hunt. I would want to take the bear myself so that would be a conversation to have with the outfitter/guide well ahead of the hunt. If the guide and I were being charged it is a different matter.

Some guy named bell used a 6.5 in Africa against elephants, not just 1 or 2, but several hundred, why wouldn't it do a bear in?

Is it my rig of choice, probably not, but don't the Alaskan natives hunt everything with ar-15's?
A freaking elephant doesn’t have grit.
This is an animal with grit!!! But of course if the hunter would had a 6.5, 6 or 22 CM the lion would have just gave up. Most haven’t shot anything but whitetails talking smack.

Someone who's better at math that I am, could probably work out the ratio of something like 700 Nitro and the weight of an elephant, bullet weight ratio to animal weight ratio, and it would probably show that the 6.5 Creed is over gunned for a 1000lb bear, LOL.

Elephant-- 10,000 lb weight / 1000 grain bullet equals 10

Brown Bear-- 1000 lb weight/140 grain bullet equals 7.4
1400 lb weight/140 grain bullet equals 10

Or if you're a fan of muzzle energy...

10,000 lb animal with 8900lbs of energy

1000 lb animal with 2300 lbs of energy

The dude didnt know what happened and couldnt even find it in the scope again to get a follow up. I think the theory of him having too much gun is valid.
You had me at dude!!! Yea and you wouldn’t have ether with what ever CM you’re using. You would have 💩 your pants just like this “dude”more like clown did. The punch line blew over your head, the purpose of posting the video was for educational purposes we aren’t dealing with little old Bambi, you can shoot with a kids cartridge and it runs 25 yards and falls over. When you’re hunting dangerous stuff that will kill you, bring the correct cartridge and know how to shoot it.
This clown in the video shouldn’t even be hunting and isn’t worthy of taken a Lions life.

It's amazing that every dangerous game animal has been killed with a stick n string, a muzzle loader, and a handgun.

Yea it’s amazing how they have a guy behind them with a 375 H&H, that's TO FUNNY. You know what else is funny my wife is 5’5” 120 lbs and shoots a 300 WIN MAG, 300 WSM and a 280AI light weight may I add 7.6 lbs with no issues. But in today’s world most women can kick the 💩 out of most men.

And using a 6.5 with a guy backing them up with a 375 which is a HUNTING rifle and not a STOPPING rifle isn't any different.

I'm pretty sure that if even you're hunting with a .375, someone with a .375 or bigger is still backing you up.

Phil Shoemaker is literally probably the greatest living brown bear guide and he's fine with people shooting a .270 with 150gr Partitions. He also says that a 30-06 with 180's or 200's is more than enough for the biggest of bears and tends to shoot completely through them on broadside shots. He's also killed a charging brown with a 9mm S&W and Buffalo Bore hard cast ammo. So there's that.
