CPW Decisions Today

Which is BS. Nothing quite like applying for a hunt code that had its tag allotment slashed by 50% from the previous year.

No argument from me.

The CPWs reasoning is they are still compiling aerial count data and can’t get it done before the app deadline.

1. Should have been 80/20 residency tag allotments.

2. Basically forced to spend the preference point fee for elk/deer/bear/pronghorn. You could get lucky and draw every year or be cursed and never draw in the bonus round. So must still collect points. There will be point creep.

3. M/G/S point fee still $50/$100? Must apply for an actual hunt for point to be awarded unsuccessfully? How does this work for those with less than the required 3pp? Apply for antlerless hunts and once unsuccessful drawing 3x can then apply for antlered?

Yes, still $50/$100. You can apply for a ram/bull/billy tag with less than 3, you just can’t draw one.

Wow, interesting changes. Will be curious to see how this effects my home units after it goes through for the first time in 2028.

Very curious how the computer just draws a line down the middle of the group and says preference point draw or bonus draw. I can pretty consistently hunt archery at home every year or every other at the longest right now (for elk). Doesn't seem like it should change really, but need to understand it better. I will be stoked for random for my local pronghorn area (not a ton of applicants but very few tags).
