CPVC residential fire sprinkler system

As I mentioned I was a building maintenance mechanic for the city. When our new courthouse/jail building was just days from opening, a sprinkler pipe burst from freezing in an unheated soffit. It was over the Xmas weekend and it ran inside the building for a day and a half before it was found. Because it filled the jail 18” deep and the courthouse about 4” deep. A deputy noticed water coming out of a door and across the parking lot. Ruined 20,000 sq ft of carpet, 18,000 sq ft of vinyl tile, and had to replace all the sheet rock 24” up from the floor on the lowest floor of the courthouse. I can’t remember if the contractor paid or his insurance, but IIRC it was maybe $200,000.

It’s darkly funny that the window signage says “CLEARANCE!” As in , these wet couches are now super cheap! Apologies if this is your store. You obviously might not see the humor…..
I cried at the time and now, I am just glad it is done. $800,000 claim and it took 9 months to fix and get the building back in place.
