I shoot a lot less varmints than I used to since I moved to Arizona full time in 2021. I made it a point this year to try and kill one per day in 2024 with hopes of surpassing that number. I spent two weeks in Wyoming and was able to knock down 12 more coyotes in early July.

Got back to AZ last week and went out for 3 field days... Scouting, shooting, etc. First day saw no dogs, but day 2 I was able to get two killed. Day 3 I shot two pups who were eating scraps right outside their den.

I went out this morning and was able to get onto one at 448 yards with my .223 He was nose down moving slow and got the 77 TMK treatment. Dropped him in his tracks and he was officially number 365 on the year!

Wait, you have already shot 365 this year and it's only the end of July?
Correct. Numbers are relative though for sure.

When I lived on 200 acres in Northern California and managed multiple 3,000-10,000 acre ranches for coyote and squirrel depredation, 365 would be a decent months worth of coyote kills.

That’s stacking em for sure. Since you mention finding some at a den, what percent are called in?

What are you up to now?
Coyote killing has slowed as focus is big game right now. I did kill two coyotes last week in Northern California on my buddies ranch during a high wind/long range practice session. 206 and 734 yards kills. First shot miss at 640, he jogged off from being dusted and stopped at 734. Made a wind correction and he died right there.

Right now I’m sitting in an airport heading back to Northern California for work meetings this week.

I’ll be back out in the desert next week scouting for coues and mule deer and will likely knock a few coyotes down.
