Anybody use cow elk urine in their calling setups? Was wondering if it might catch a bull's attention before he gets downwind of you?

Never used it can only think it would by you a few seconds. But that may be all you need. Hope some more guys chime in.

I used to use the cow elk urine wafers.
I would say yeah it could/maybe buy you a couple seconds, but man that shit stinks and is hell getting the smell outta your clothes if you hunt something else

I hear you on that. 50 years ago( i am an old, old bowhunter), we used to use skunk scent in little screw on containers that had safety pens to attach to your hat. Everything was placed in plastic bags and stuck inside plastic containers when the hunt was over and put in the bed of the truck. " Forget the wind, just hunt" took on a whole new meaning.

I used to. Never now. I smell elk at least 1 time a day. I want to smell real elk, not canned elk piss.

I have used it in the past, but if it leaks on to clothing or in your pack good luck getting the smell out. It give you a few extra seconds. personally I just do not think it is worth having in the pack.

If the wind is wrong it is wrong I quit using that stiff quite a few years ago don’t even really use dead down wind anymore other than in the laundry personally have had many times I’ve wandered into elk and smelt them before anything else I wouldn’t wear that stuff in the woods

Seems the consensus is it's not worth the expense or effort when calling in elk. Does it have any good uses or is it just another gimmick in the hunting industry to separate us from our greenbacks?

I view any cover scent as something to buy you time when you screw something up You may confuse an animal for a moment but confusion will lead to panic and they will bolt.

I am particular about trying not to leave scent from my boots when I'm hunting. I do spray my boots and put cover scent on them. But your scent is in your boots no matter what. And wherever you walk you leave it.

two reasons I don't use it. first I want to be able to smell real elk and second I'm usually hunting serious grizz country and would prefer not to smell like their next meal.

Makes sense. At 71 yrs. old my eyes and ears ain't too good, but I can still smell a piece of fried chicken at a 1000 yds, so maybe can smell an elk.

Find a fresh cow pee spot and gather up the pee dirt. We use it every year if we find a fresh pee spot. Works well as cover scent and have had bulls come in directly downwind and not spook.
You can just wash the smell out of your clothes after the season, doesn't affect my ability to smell other elk .
Pee in a bottle maybe used on a decoy, pee dirt works better by far for us. Keep it cool in a baggie and it will work all archery season.

On a side note how does everyone feel about pine scent? I usually just grab some pine trees and rub it all over my body but was wondering if anyone uses it? My first time elk hunting I went with a guide and he covered my pack and his when we were setting up. Haven't used it since but thought/thinking about it.
